OPC fine?

The point is, the rules are clear and OPC drivers participate in the scheme knowing the rules. Whether forgetting is second nature or not is not the issue. May be genuine, may not be. But even if it is, why should the consequences of that be shifted away from the driver? The rule does not say that there are exceptions for forgetting. Forget, fingers got chopped off, fainted, handphone got swallowed by the dog, rat chewed through your internet cable, was having a 48-hour orgy, what is to say one reason merits a waiver more than another? It is strict liability, the mentality/reasons behind it occuring is irrelevant. In fact, if I had to rank reasons, then in my personal view, forgetting to purchase the licence ranks really really low in the hierarchy of reasons to 'warrant' a waiver.

Actually if you look at most of the messages again, most of the offednders are not looking at a waiver, when such a thing happen, I believe most of us will be happy with a 500 bucks fine.

you have to understand the psychology of it, somebody committed an offence, first thing you would do is to find out what is the maximum fine, so as to prepare your self. Of course, all of us will hope for a waiver, who wouldn't?

For those who regret buying OPC because of this , why shoud you, its a 17k savings, plus thousands of dollars of road tax. just need to change your buying habit. Remember the time when we need to tear coupon? how many of you missed tearing a coupon? just go back in time and work the same way, dont drive your car if you have not buy the coupon yet. I know I will be doing that from now on.

As for waivers, i believe it is possible, but I will not expect LTA to come out and say it out right, but the more we ask for it, the lesser the chance, so just leave it as a case by case basis.

And one last thing, did anybody actually use the excuse that his or her dog swallow the handphone? pls enlighten me.....

i belong to the "honest and surrender" group but only in Jan like bro Doraemarc, LTA actually attend to me to listen and accept the backpay of $20. For my 2nd case, they just shoo me off and slap me with $500 2 months later. i reguarly buy 2-4 e-license monthly and no attempt to cheat the system... though accept the fine without agurement as it's my fault but really i hope they do listen to those who surrendered with say $50 backpay... no one is prefect and deserve a 2nd chance...

by the way, since LTA take more than 2 months to process such case, can we be given more time? it seems that most of us only remember on the 3rd day...

Let hope LTA start recruiting more officers to check on OPC cheaters. The government should also increase the fines too. This is the right approach to rid of OPC cheaters

cheater or not, only themselves know. it's usual to hear black cursing the red as black felt unbalanced about the discount given "enjoy" by red... but why let this opinion drown the honest?

i do not have any problem with the paper previously. tear n go, phyiscal evidence infront of payment which i still keep the used stack till today... in the old days, complains/appeal seem lesser too...

bottomline, i will pay for my mistake but habour hope the honest will be lighter, not asking for wavier...

Instead of allowing opc users buying license till next day, why not LTA only allow them buying by the end of the day they using the car?

People tend to forget buying if the deadline is next day. They will drag till the next day and forget it eventually.

If must buy on the same day, there should be less excuse of fogetting.

I have seen many drivers going for 1 hour lunch and tear just fifty cents sparking coupon, and when caught, they are alapped with a 20 bucks fine and that is for "deliberate cheating", should we recruit more officers to check on such "Normal" car cheaters?

I was trying to illustrate that there can be many many possible reasons provided to LTA for a not buying a licence. There is nothing for LTA to go on except what the OPC driver says, so what is LTA to believe, when confronted with this whole range of reasons? That's my point.

May? i think you are safe bro, given now is Sep, it's already 4 months. if you did not pass through any ERP gantry, i think even less chance... from forum, it seems that if caught you should received in 2 months for details of driver on date of offence...

mine was 1 month ago, so engrossed in thinking about work as boss stressed more in lift down to carpark that i forget timing and left i think around 6.50pm. then just out my workplace got photo flash at traffic light junction (not red light camera). now thinking back i dun know why i'm not bother by it until now, not sure the flash is LTA officer taking my car or road side contractor taking pic nd did not check time upon flash... . [:(]
