Fooblack Supercharged July 6, 2010 Share July 6, 2010 What puzzles me is all these commercial vehicle drivers know that the vehicles they drive comes with a speed limit. Are the illiterate that they do not know how to read the speed limit sticker pasted at the back of the vehicles? They know there's a speed limit, they have a choice whether to drive the vehicle or not. Since they chose to drive, then they jolly well drive within the speed limit. It is not as if someone is forcing them to speed. Those who speed are the driver's intention to travel faster. If they don't like to be restricted by the speed limit, then go drive vehicles without speed limits. Reason why I'm opposed to these commercial drivers speeding - I was rear ended hard by a speeding lorry at a traffic light, causing my car to hit 2 other cars in front from the impact. The driver was not even paying attention to the traffic conditions when all of us are slowing to stop or have stopped at the traffic light. And the reply from the driver - ghost cover eye, he didn't see us. So we can expect all these nonsenses from these drivers. Happened to me too. Dreaming van slammed into my stationary car and caused chain collision. almost lost my NCD to the blur fella. Think these van drivers are becoming too reckless and above the law... or think their vans are tanks which are full-armoured?? The rationalisations of why a van can speed, it is built similar to a passenger car so the speed sticker can be ignored blah blah blah... why dun these drivers write to TP and ask for the speed limit to be increased or "certain" so-called comparable vans (to passenger car) be speed sticker to be removed? based on all your lothy explanations and justifications? maybe can try and see what our mr TP says.. we can wait for the day to happen.... if not, keep talking here also no use... meanwhile, pls respect the sticker (if it is still there!) otherwise, pls get a passenger car with no sticker ↡ Advertisement
Joseph22 Turbocharged July 6, 2010 Share July 6, 2010 (edited) A simple question for you, do you faithfully display valid parking coupons everytime you park? If you exceed by an extra minute when your parking coupon expires, do you tear another extra coupon to make up for that extra minute? No right? So what makes you think that some OPC drivers would be much more willing to purchase a $20 e-licence rather than a $0.50/$1 parking coupon? It was reported that some time back quite a number are caught daily for not purchasing the e-licence and the TS in the link below "forgotten" to tear a new one and reused the coupon. Can't be so many forgotten cases right? Only the minds of these OPC drivers knows better. http://forum.onemotoring.com.sg/mvnforum/m...ead?thread=5382 You want more proof, just google for it. I for one will tear and show the correct coupon every time i park. What you dont do, dont assume other is not doing. Another thing is, if you are cheap skate just say you are cheap skate (for not showing proper coupon). dont have to come here and say everyone else is doing it. Because the truth is not Everyone is doing it. The most you can say is Most ppl are doing it. Any what the majority is doing does not means that it is right. Wave_rider Neutral Newbie July 6, 2010 Share July 6, 2010 Especially those speed up their cars & stay at your right side after they saw you switching on the right side signal light. I gotta agree that not even that exit. Along any road , you can meet this type of idiots. They can keep very very far distance , once u signal , they race to close the gap. Fooblack Supercharged July 6, 2010 Share July 6, 2010 (edited) Jul 6, 2010 368 errant lorries booked By Maria Almenoar In addition to stepped-up enforcement efforts, LTA is considering doing more to improve the safety of lorries on our roads. -- ST PHOTO: LAU FOOK KONG A TWO-week enforcement exercise to catch errant lorries flouting safety rules involving workers netted 386 lorries, or 10 per cent of those checked. Traffic Police also caught 122 drivers for offences such as speeding, failing to wear seat belt and failing to keep left[/b]. The blitz was carried out jointly by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Traffic Police (TP) at Kaki Bukit, Pioneer Road, Tuas and Woodlands. Offences include carrying more passengers than they should, not filling up front passenger seats first and not displaying a maximum passenger capacity label among others. The safety of workers while being ferried on lorries has been in the spotlight again recently after a spate of serious accidents last month. Mr Tan Hiok Seng, LTA's director of Enforcement and Investigations said: "LTA takes a serious view of those who continue to flout the rules. We have and will continue to step-up our enforcement efforts. We hope that with the cooperation and commitment of all parties, we will be able to create a safer environment for workers." In addition to stepped-up enforcement efforts, LTA is considering doing more to improve the safety of lorries on our roads. It is reviewing whether the remaining safety measures announced last August for implementation by September 2012, can be brought forward. Commander Traffic Police, assistant commissioner of police Christopher Ng said: "We would like to remind all motorists that speeding, inconsiderate and careless driving are serious offences that have the potential to cause the loss of lives. 'Traffic Police will spare no efforts in ensuring that such driving behaviour will be kept to a minimum through continued enforcement and outreach." ******************************************************************************** ** My response to this news - this is long over-due! Bystander50 5th Gear July 6, 2010 Share July 6, 2010 To answer your question first, I alway place more coupons than what I expect to use before hand so I don't have to go back, and I avoid coupon parking as I find it a hassle. Errm and how is some "most" as you claimed earlier? And in which statistic did it show that most committed the offences you mentioned? Aren't you generalising based on the acts of a few? You can read this link from LTA itself. So for the 150 caught by LTA for OPC offence, if they are not taking chances of not buying the e-licence, then you tell me what this act should be called? Forgot to purchase the e-licence, don't know how to use Internet/AXA machine, don't know which website to go ... etc? http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...226-201172.html For these 150 caught monthly, there are many more out there not caught yet. On my daily work trips, I always see this OPC car drive past me almost everyday when I drive off a the same timing. I don't believe the driver is buying the license daily, unless he is willing to spend $400 a month for the licence alone. Just hope 1 day LTA will use all the OPC cars as trial for the new satellite based road pricing, that is when we'll know whether LTA's coffers are increasing in revenue or the roads will have less OPC cars driving around during restricted hours. To say they have the whole thing under control is only the time when ll these commercial vehicles keeps to the left most lane all the time when cruising. When these vehicles are on the left lane, there's no way they can speed up. Just outlaw cruising on lane 1 and 2 for these vehicles. And if the blinking orange indicators affects the height of these vehicles entering carparks, I wonder why people in LTA or TP never thought of fixing these lights at the outside of the A pillar. The protruding light will not have any effects on other motorists since the side mirrors protrude more.

Lareneg Neutral Newbie July 6, 2010 Share July 6, 2010 let's stand on a neutral ground and analyze.. if commercial vehicles were to stick to their 70km limit.. can passenger cars stick to the speed limit of 90km/h on expressways too? or 80km/h on some. anyone can also capture video of passenger cars passing by them (when he/she is travelling at 90km/h exactly) and submit to TP for speeding.. it is a never ending cycle.. passenger cars driving over expressway limit is equivalent to commercial vehicles traveling over 70km/hr? not bashing all motorists.. but again, the road is public and shared by everyone.. give and take! road courtesy.. pass it on! If not, why would they need to outsource the summon to 3rd companies and the need for wardens to walk the carpark if everyone is as saint as you? So the lowered administrative hassles from looking and screening for wardens, salary payouts, procuring of vehicles, equipment, uniforms, etc are not valid reasons for outsourcing???? Or perhaps our govt outsources the events management to Pico for our NDP because they're holding too many NDP parades??? As for needing them, well you have just about admitted to cheating on parking coupons so there obviously are a few wayward people that need to be fined! The protruding light will not have any effects on other motorists since the side mirrors protrude more. Agreed. That's why i say these enforcement activities have to sustain till the general public knows what is expected to be the correct driving practices for these commercial vehicles drivers. It will save lots of time arguing in this forum whereby we hear all sorts of rationalisation and reasons given why it is permissible for vans/lorries to be on the lanes 1 & 2. The truth is that there are clear proper law and order and it is up to individual to comply or face the risk of being caught. It is only on the KPE I see the sign "heavy vehicles pls keep left". I think it should be shown at all expressways. Maybe caution further in terms of fines and penalties and enforcement activities. Maybe I should write to TP to thank them for this round of enforcement... so that they feel appreciated to sustain these activities! That will go a long way to ensure safety of our roads!
