Deadsoulz 1st Gear February 2, 2017 Share February 2, 2017 BRO, no sun film provided on the windscreen and windows when you bought? It was standard "freebie" (sure!) when I bought but I declined as it was lower speccs. Installed my own choice (which I used on previous rides and felt it worked well) outside at own cost. AIR, ~$350 + 25 for sunroof). Maybe the glass on new models may already have some sun protection embedded? But just not enough for here? Good sun film surely needed in our climate. And new ones using new technologies are probably even more effective than what I installed. Hi. Do u mind sharing what window film u pay for $350? ↡ Advertisement
K5G1 2nd Gear February 2, 2017 Share February 2, 2017 As, bro.. it's quite awhile ago! Zen Cool.., if I remember correctly. Did at shop at McPherson Road. Dunno if it's still there. They also had a few grades. The one I installed was supposed to be the 'best' there at that time. Stuck to it coz had it on 2 cars before K5 and felt it worked pretty well. You want good solar film, then it's V-Kool... nothing comes close... will last 10 years without degradation...

You want good solar film, then it's V-Kool... nothing comes close... will last 10 years without degradation... ;) you're a V-kool dealer?? Yup, it's an established brand. Metal sputtered, so technically should be "more effective". Considered 3x cars ago but didn't do then coz had to cut lobang for IU, and supposedly prone to staining at cut edges. The one on my rides is not one to brag about but works well enough and, subjectively, good for the money. That was also why I bought the K5 after a Sonata. Had hoped C&C would bring in the TC'd version but they said they wouldn't. The n.a. 2L wasn't & is not "perfect" but good-looking (even now!), good for the money, and (so far) done pretty well for what I need from my ride. I used my previous Subaru Impreza for 9 years with V-Kool... yes there is a cut-out at the IU and even with my current Sonata, there is still the cut-out... but I didn't get a stain on the edges for the Subaru... I'm fully satisfied with the V-Kool solar film after 9 years. All my windscreen decals never faded, they are unchanged for 10 years, and I have transferred all of them to my current car. My car's interior never faded or cracked even though I parked a minimum of 6 hours under direct sunlight over 9 years. Even my umbrellas that I kept on the rear seat parcel shelf never faded under the heat and light... so it's definitely an excellent investment... just a note, the cut-out is still imperceptible on my Subaru's windscreen even after 9 years of use. That car's V-Kool was given to me as a 'gift' from the SE - who was a newbie lady selling her first car... must have really eaten into her commission then... my current car's V-Kool, my old bird SE only gave me the standard $300 discount (free solar film) and I paid the balance $1000 for it... Must be great service ;) SE's do need build trust, and if she's still around after 10 years she'll be alright. No lar... that SE from Subaru didn't last a year... My SE is an old bird who joined Komoco since it started in Singapore... before my Subaru, I bought an Elantra from him... after we got to know him, my dad introduced at least 3 or 4 people to buy cars from him... hence he kind of knows my dad and me... so my Sonata is the second car I bought from him... it would have been my third car if I had bought the Avante instead of the Impreza instead. But I decided not to go back to him and tried the branch at Bukit Timah to my eternal regret cos they played punk with my COE bidding and I didn't get the car... so I moved on to Subaru... a year later when he found out, he told me I should have gone back to him, cos he managed to secure the cars for his customers at the price I paid deposit for without top up. CKONG1301 Neutral Newbie February 5, 2017 Share February 5, 2017 I used V-Kool for my previous Camry for 10 years. The highest grade for IR blocking, but with high light transmission. My driver seat's leather cracked, but front passenger seat is ok. In other words, crack is also dependent on how you maintain your seat. My K5 also used the same V-Kool IR grade, but seems not blocking IR as effective as Camry. K5 has solar tinted glass so I expect IR blocking will be better, but it did not. May be Singapore is getting hotter nowadays.
teomingern Supercharged February 6, 2017 Share February 6, 2017 I used V-Kool for my previous Camry for 10 years. The highest grade for IR blocking, but with high light transmission. My K5 also used the same V-Kool IR grade, but seems not blocking IR as effective as Camry. K5 has solar tinted glass so I expect IR blocking will be better, but it did not. May be Singapore is getting hotter nowadays. Bro... tinting only blocks out light but doesn't block out IR or UV rays... the issue with having factory tinted glass is that when you install solar film, you have to use the more transparent type otherwise will fail LTA's inspection in 3 years' time. Only V-Kool can achieve maximum IR rejection with minimum tinting effect... There are cars that come with anti-UV glass... the last Toyota Corolla that was made in Japan plus the Nissan March from that generation. Their window glass had etchings to show 70% cut to UV transmission... In any case, cutting UV light is easy... all solar films can do it easily, whether it's metallic sputtering tech or dye based tech or ceramic tech... it's IR rejection that is the most difficult to attain with high transmission rates. Many brands use heavy tinting and reflective surfaces to reflect as much light as possible but it ends up just being annoying to other road users and reduces visibility for the driver and hinders law enforcement. Another side effect is that heavy tinting causes the irises of your eyes to open wide, and if the solar film doesn't really block UV light to 99.9%, then you're just exposing your eyes to UV radiation and run the risk of cataract and premature macular degeneration. Cutting down visible light helps with heat cos the visible light that passes through the glass gets attenuated to IR easily... same for UV... so some amount of tinting helps but the contribution isn't as large as largely or totally rejecting IR directly from the sun... Anyway most solar films will max out their energy absorption of IR rays after a while... so it helps only if you park less than 2 hours in direct sunlight... for myself, the car feels less hot subjectively when parked only for 1-3 hours in direct sunlight. But after 6-8 hours, it's still burning hot inside lar... I can't even touch my steering wheel until the aircon blows a while and even my sunglasses in the roof compartment is burning hot... can't wear until I put it in front of the aircon blower for a few minutes... heh heh...
K5G1 2nd Gear February 6, 2017 Share February 6, 2017 LOL.. I just wind down the windows and, where possible n safe open the doors too, for awhile to let the hot air out! Can't, and don't want to, run away from the sun. Guess that's also when we appreciate the ventilated front seats in the K5..,?

Jaason3138 1st Gear February 8, 2017 Share February 8, 2017 I got no film on my car. Never feel heat from sun roof (I usually open the cover, not the glass, during daytime when in the car). It's all coming through wind shield and side windows. Seriously considering getting some film... The other advantage of film over sunroof is the added advantage of holding the glass from shuttering if accident happens where it break. Anyone did that? Rikecool or VKool?

Meanwhile in sg, we pay the highest car prices on this planet, yet we have to settle for the puny underpowered 2L Nu engine with reduced specs as compared to the prev gen... Our Optima looks much faster than it can go....

Anyone did that? Rikecool or VKool?I did not install film on sunroof, but I don't feel the heat from the roof. teomingern Supercharged February 10, 2017 Share February 10, 2017 Yeah... the heat is usually from the huge piece of glass that is the windscreen...
Gambot 1st Gear February 10, 2017 Share February 10, 2017 I'm also stuck between the decision whether to get solar film on the sunroof for my Tucson because I park in open carpark almost all the time and eventually had it installed on my roof. Now I've never close my roof cover at all even under baking hot sun. Most of the heat comes from windscreen as it is less tinted due to lta compliance. ↡ Advertisement
