Darkblue 1st Gear September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 Let's start by reducing the number of vehicles owned per family.... at least one family one car right ?? 1st declare before purchasing, 2nd car = OMV price x 5, 3rd car = OMV price x 5 & compulsory must be OPC. This will also lead to other problems... Gov say want to promote family life, no way I see young couple push the prams into the already super crowded MRT (now MRT machiam no off-peak period, all the time is very packed). So much hassle to go family life, how to settle down ?? you cannot like that say mah. some owned more than one cars because they like cars. when it comes to driving on the road, also drive one car mah. if a family got few adults and all work in different locations, one car how to share? instead, we should review the car price, push the price sky high. once the price tag is out of reach, the traffic congestion will automatically reduced. good also for those who are forcing their last dollar to own a car. after implement such, either work hard to earn more then buy a car or LL take public transport. this is one of many suggestions.~
Benarsenal Turbocharged September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 OK. After all the debate here and there, we can find out the causes for all this. 1) We have too many people 2) Our public transport is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Or at least, cannot cope with our 5 million (soon to be 6.5m) population. 3) Roads are congested at certain times because THAT IS WHEN WE GO TO WORK/SCHOOL AND COME HOME. Not like we can suka suka go and come as we please (as people have said). 4) Also, everybody is heading to the SAME PLACE at the SAME TIME. Doesn't take a genius to figure out what is the result of that. 5) We need more roads. 6) Our land too small. 7) Singaporeans have big ego. Car = status. Not for proper functionality (which I think is more important). Agree? Disagree?
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 (edited) it's pretty obvious, the bosses wants more money collected and they're not interested in spending the money collected over the years to build up our infra-structure.... and even if they did, they don't want to do it fast..... Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 ERP just pushes peak hour to earlier hours in the morning and later hours in the night.... cos for the sake of not paying the additional ERP, motorist stay back in their office, and wait till the ERP operation times are over, before going home..... and it's the same thing in the morning.... since when did peak hour started as early as 6:00am??? especially when parents send their kids to school these days for those with cars.... haiz.... Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 and the actual COE system was meant to be, buyers of cars had to get their COE first, before they actually walked into showrooms to buy their cars.... but somehow along the line, COE became just an additional tax to car buying.... losing it's whole meaning altogether.... Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 9, 2010 Share September 9, 2010 and the banks here cannot afford to have only max 70% loan for cars like what happened 7yrs ago??? cos they realise they're not making money as compared to the current 100% loan for 7-10yrs tenure period.... it's all the $$$ that dilutes the policies.... Scion Turbocharged September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 zero growth? so the current pool of cars, when some of their COEs expired, will be allocated accordingly to a higher price bid? or by balloting? will it become a scenario like my ex-company's carpark? 20 lots are allocated to my dept, which has 60 drivers... the management said it's fair by balloting among all drivers each month, but directors and senior managers will get permanent lots, which already take up 7 lots the rich and the ones in power will always come in first

Beachboys Clutched September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 (edited) IMHO, this zero-growth target (GPC Chairman for Transport was even mentioned negative growth target if possible) is inevitable... With a growing affluent population where the people sees owning a car as a symbol status (news interviewed students n young working class all desiring to own cars) + a physical limited amount of land/roads (there is only so much that one can build/expand n not forgetting more cars means need to build more space for carparks too), we have to stop car population growth by drastic measures in the foreseeable future~ If not, we will start to complain about the Govt not doing anyting where the traffic situtation deteroriates to the daily gridlock seen in Bangkok or in Seoul~ That's why LTA is pushing for public transport and improving it (lots of room for improvement, but at least the bulk of everything still works)~ Edited September 10, 2010 by Beachboys

Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 you cannot prevent the aspirations of Singaporeans to own cars.... what we can do is to control our additional population, and to build more bloody roads.....for goodness sake!!! Do they even think properly before shooting off their mouths? when money comes into the equation, greed takes over.... and it snowballs.... we won't know the feeling till we're offered such money in the first place!!! [nod] those money good enough to shut my mouth to implement policies for the people, but more than enough for me to think of how to snowball the cash being earned.... Summer69 Clutched September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 (edited) nowadays so many ideas & suggestion & "solutions", don know whether to happy, angry or sad. but i smelly smelly erection coming. well, with so many cars OTR, they can now slowly milk these existing car owners while forcing those who cannot buy car ones (if zero car growth) go take first class pubic transport system. any way, zero car growth will be sucidal, many industry will die, just like suggesting zero FT growth?? HUAT AH!!!! Edited September 10, 2010 by Summer69

Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 what our bosses are very fond of, is to slice us bit by bit, rather than to chop us into half.... the end destination is the same, but process, different....
SimonTan 2nd Gear September 10, 2010 Share September 10, 2010 The issue is they will float all sorts of ideas to give us happy scenarios. Urging those who support the various ideas to vote for them, to make it possible. But it will take 4.5 years for them to fine tune it, and then the next erection. They will again ask people to vote for them to get it implemented. The only way to break the spell is to vote wisely. ↡ Advertisement
