For car using this type of P/S,although there are really nothing to note and is supposed to be "maintenance free", is it really true nothing to be wary of. Like

steering coupling/servo operation/steering cooling fan etc............

Any body can advise???

No different in terms of maintenance vs those belt driven version. Occasionally you still have to check the power steering fluid level, same as the belt type.

sure or not? I was under the impression that the electric motor doesn't operate on hydraulic pressure, therefore no PS fluid needed

Power Steering Wiki

sounds quite maintenance free to me. unless the thing spoils then need to repair/replace. much like air con compressor

Problem is...........no fluid to check,no belts to see, no sound to listen to..............dun even know when there's a problem...........until there's a problem.

Its is maintenance free. Was shocked to see someone suggest checking the fluid lol

My second ride is a Fiat and they use such Electrical Power Steering. When its gonna 'up lorry', there is a weird humming sound. After which, u lose power steering intermitently. Of course, the wonderful TTS quoted me more than S$6k for the repair. Being a car enthusiasts, I did my due diligence and it cost only 530

All electrics have the traditional conductivity issue. Example: good when new only. Even if there is regular servicing done. When the time comes for you to pay for expensive replacement. What do you say?

Electronic steering wheel unlike normal steering wheel, not advisable to keep turning from left to right and back to left,it'll burn the electronic device inside due to it need to keep supplying electricity to the electric motor to assist the turn of the steering wheel. This is the advice from the Toyota Manual.

Now the new vehicles (Jap/Kor) are coming with electronic power steering..... most of the time feels over-assisted, very numb steering feel.

When I drove a Honda Freed, there was once power steering spoil, suddenly the steering will jam, power cut off making turning very very difficult. Imagine if lady drivers have no strength to manoeuvre... Crap design, so dangerous.
