Waxing new car

Synthetic polymer technologies have advanced so much nowadays.

many modern paint protective coating can be applied easily

I am giving up on real wax, and going for polymer coatings. So easy, I can apply 3-5 coats in less then the time spend to do 1 coat of wax.

Actually boutique wax are more easy to remove except they dun really last..those tough wax are usually the ones that need some trick to apply annd remove..

New cars are coated with protective compound by factory before they are shipped out.

They looked very dirty like a thick layer of wax on them.

This layer of coatiing need to be steam wash or use correct chemicals to dewax away to reaveal the new paint coatings of new car.

AD would have their inhouse detailer to polish up.

But it is correctly say, it is the best time and best condition to put in those protective wax/or sealants over the paint.

Most commonly used are kerosence..fastest way to dewax this thick layer of compound...

we wax our cars once or twice a month (depending on time available and weather).

only try to wax immediately after wash and dry.. sometimes i see my neighbours wash on day 1, wax on day 3.. nothing done in between.

try to have a good amount of light as well, so you spot the swirls or areas that are not waxed, or waxed already but not cleaned.

i don't like driving a dirty looking car. minimum is to wash with car shampoo + dry with CSII PPS solution. bonus is to wax over the weekends if free.

Sorry to digress... How often do you wax your car ? Is once a month too much ?

Most people do it once a month if you are using a sealant or a tougher wax..in between washes...use a topper like quick detailer or a spray wax for maintenance..but if you have the time..u can actually do a coat of sealant bi weekly..for boutique waxes..it is recommended to be layered but for a synthetic..i dun recommend layering..a layer or two are good enough..

Wow, the above are slightly too high level for me to understand. But I'll read it up to find out more. Thanks guys. ^_^

I see, so i guess its better to take a big time off on that day itself, shampoo, claybar, wax right all at the same day itself right?

Given that my new ride is now almost 2 weeks old, I am wondering when to start the first session. Ultimately I want to keep the cost low for starters if possible just to get the minimum necessity.

Oh yes, by the way, what is the recommended time frame to wait for new car owners before the first wax actually take place?

A friend of mine told me that new rides have its own protective layer, so it is not necessary to wax it at this point but can be done on a later stage.

Was out at Home-fix earlier to look out for these item, saw meguiar wax at about $17++ as recommended by some of the bros/sis. Am also considering DG since I have heard so much about it in this forum. Virtually this forum is developing a DG cult lol.

You have CSII on your car? If yes, do you still need to wax?

Hi all,

Have got my ride for approximately 2 weeks now.

As recommended by my agent and bros/sis that new car only requires waxing, I was wondering what you guys would recommend.

I'm going to leave it open minded for now in terms of brand etc and the pros and cons, how long it last, steps required and more...

So need you guys to fill me in a little.

The only sad part is I don't have much time on hands usually but am still trying to put the effort in maintaining the outlook of my car.

Million thanks in advance. [:)]

new car simple steps can liao:

1) wash with car shampoo

2) claybar

3) wax

4) detail leave-on

5) sealant

that's all !

I think the sealant should be before wax.

Unless you know the what the dealer put on, I'll strip everything down and put on a fresh coat of sealant/wax as soon as possible. I think what they meant about protective layer is either some sort of glaze or cheap sealant/wax. I'm not too sure the dealer would be willing to spend some fortune to put on those type of coating/protective layer like CSII without charging some extras.

Just my 2 cents

It depends on the brands u are using..some require wax follow by sealant..The sealant does not seal off the paint but seal the wax..

Most that i know off uses glaze after stripping off the thick compound..i guess you should not why they uses glaze -_- ..and the charges for each car range from $40 to $60..
