Vinceng Turbocharged October 17, 2010 Share October 17, 2010 (edited) Sometimes bigger engines doesn't always mean better as i recall. During the generation of the hippo corolla, it was offered in two iterations i.e. 1500cc (1NZ-FE) and 1600cc (3ZZ-FE). The 3ZZ-FE despite having slightly superior volumetric capacity turned out to be only marginally better off in output gains and FC-wise was very much worse off. I also recall that for the WRX (at least i do for the GC err bug eye i think is GC), the export version is 2500cc and the JDM comes with the 2000cc and the Japanese predictably made the JDM version more powerful than the export. Garrison mentality i suppose. Yes. That 9th generation Japan made Corolla was a gem, returning at least 13 to 15km/l under real life driving conditions. It was sold here from late 2000 to late 2003 before the Thai made Altis was launched. The current Vios still uses this 1NZ-FE engine but feedback from owners is that the engine sounds noisier and is not as refined, which caught me by surprise. I suppose Japanese and Thai built QC differs Edited October 17, 2010 by Vinceng ↡ Advertisement

Rationalexuberance 4th Gear October 17, 2010 Share October 17, 2010 every morning when i go to work, i start my engine, my engine will roar to life like it going to burst. then my rpm will dance from 800 to 1500 then to 1200 then back to 800, for like 10 sec. anything wrong? what car are you driving? roaring to life is quite normal for some cars, ecu tuned to rev higher on idle on cold start to quickly warm up engine. Best to leave 1-2min for engine to warm up on idle b4 moving off time depends on what kind of car you driving performance cars better to leave longer. My legacy gt needs abt 2-3min to warm up, till then the rpm will idle normal. I had a similar prob of "dancing" idling rpm. my problem was one of the tubings in engine bay came loose and the engine was running lean, very wasteful of fuel if not rectified. just a simple plug back of the tubing and adding a clip to secure solved my issue. Mini-itx2010 Neutral Newbie October 17, 2010 Share October 17, 2010 Its quite normal. Purpose is to allow engine to warm up faster. Its pre-porgrammed into ECU and can be changed thru a reflash. But I don't think its necessary.
Albeniz Turbocharged October 17, 2010 Share October 17, 2010 (edited) Many many years ago when I was driving the old Nissan Sunny 1.3GL (the 1982 manual version), I encountered sudden engine cut-off while traveling on the expressway. I was driving on the 5th gear, decided to slow down, engaged the clutch to shift the gear stick to 4th gear and the engine suddenly died. I had to "glide" the car to the road shoulder until it slowed to a standstill. This incident happened once and it puzzled me until today. It was a good car, though. Majordan 2nd Gear October 18, 2010 Share October 18, 2010 i've read that it is not good to leave the engine idle running from cold... recommend to drive off at 1k rpm or below so that less petrol is used to heat up the engine at stationery position ↡ Advertisement
