Redstorm 1st Gear June 24, 2011 Share June 24, 2011 Actually there is a MSM map that is distributed FOC and it's more updated than the ones they give you, I have the 2011 City navigator and the lastest Malsing map, both do not show that the E22 is connected to Desaru, my free map shows that it's connected. You know why the latest MSM NT map which is preloaded in your Garmin device together with the Garmin CN map is not as up-to-date as the other free MSM map MSM v5.xx? The so-called latest MSM NT map is at least a few versions older than the latest MSM v5.xx map. For eg, when the map data from the current MSM v5.17 are released to Garmin for them to compile into the MSM NT map, it takes 2 months or so for Garmin to do so, by which time when the new MSM NT map is released (using MSM v5.17 data) the MSM v5.xx map would probably be version 5.25 or more.
Redstorm 1st Gear June 24, 2011 Share June 24, 2011 MFM is more detailed compared to MSM. MFM is more detailed compared to MSM as far as POIs is concerned. As for tracks, both are equally good.

Ahyoo2002 2nd Gear June 24, 2011 Share June 24, 2011 PAPAGO! use compass no data charge. as a precaution, you can turn of 3G and turn off cellular data tested already ... work like a charm with up-to-date map, direction and voice guidance I have both TomTom and Papago in my iPhone4. It seems TomTom gave a more direct (shorter) route. I also use my iPhone as my GPS in USA, flawless!

Acieed 1st Gear June 24, 2011 Share June 24, 2011 Nothing to lose. Wendytan85 Neutral Newbie June 27, 2011 Share June 27, 2011 I got the Garmin 1350 refurb from www.bestbuyelec.com. $179 and it now comes with Junction View, Lane Assist, Live Traffic Information and Avoidance from LTA. Lotsa good reviews and excellent value for money. Even if you import it directly from USA and buy the Garmin traffic receiver ($89) from an authorized distributer, its going to cost more than $179. I never ever got lost, ever again! Apparently, a lot of people buy from them. There are a lot of reviews online on this company in a lot of car forums. I bought my Garmin 1350 from them as well. I think the reason for this is because they are the cheapest. For an entry level GPS at $179 with the traffic receiver and free delivery, the price is unbeatable.
Redstorm 1st Gear June 27, 2011 Share June 27, 2011 (edited) hi redstorm, what would I lose if I were to download the latest map from MSM or MFM and install it over the default MSM map in my recently-purchased Garmin 2465? thanks in advance. You lose only the JCV and LA if you install the MSM v5.xx or MFM maps. You do not need to delete the preinstalled MSM NT 2011.xx and/or the Garmin CN 2011.xx maps as they can co-exist with the MSM v5.xx and MFM maps. I would advise you to install the MSM v5.xx and MFM map in the Map folder in your microSD card. It is safer to do so in case the map gets corrupted, you just need to delete it and your device will still function. If you install the map in the internal memory and if it gets corrupted, you need to send it in for repair. The MSM NT 2011.xx map has JCV and LA while the MSM v5.xx map, though more up-to-date as far as new tracks and POIs are concerned, have very limited JCV covering only a few areas in KL. The JCV and LA coverage for the MSM v5.xx map will expand in the long term depending on contributions from members. The other good thing about the MSM v5.xx map is that the JCV and LA can be displayed on any version of Nuvi (not just localised version) as long as the model supports these features. The MFM map currently have no JCV and LA as the third party cgpsmapper compiler used to compile the map does not have the capability to add these features. One main advantage about installing maps in the Map folder of the microSD card is that you can install as many maps as the card capacity allows. For convenience and easy remembrance, you can also rename the map in this folder to any name you like for e.g. MSMv5.17.img, MFM110627.img, etc. It is also necessary to rename some of them as many maps share the same file name (gmapsupp) and it will overwrite each other if you do not change the name prior to installing another map of the same file name. A word of caution when you have many similar maps in your device. When using it, do not check more than one map otherwise you get conflicting information during navigation or, worse still, you will end up somewhere else other than your intended destination. The 6-country map could be the Garmin CN South East Asia map. If this is the one, then it is probably a hacked map since the original will set you back by more than S$100. Or, he could have compiled the map himself using free maps such as MSM, Navigasi, etc. with the GMaptool software.

Hmmm, good alternative source, but $198 + $89 Traffic Receiver = $287 >> $179. So price at bestbuyelec.com still beats it hands down. Anyone have any cheaper sources? If like that overseas PI sure cheaper but who wanna take the risk of first buying PI and then hassle of loading SG Maps of Garmin .. !! Not advisable $198 i paid is Singapore Dollars ! ↡ Advertisement
