ESPN latest : Hodgson: I have players' support

Roy Hodgson insists he retains the Liverpool players' support despite the dismal performance in the home defeat to Wolves on Wednesday.

Liverpool are languishing in 12th place after Wednesday's result, which was their eighth league defeat of a disastrous season. Last term's seventh-placed finish under Rafael Benitez was considered calamitous, but the Reds look to be facing an uphill battle if they are to match that effort in 2011.

The fans made their disapproval clear during the defeat to Wolves and, while Hodgson accepts they have turned against him, he insists the players remain onside.

"I have been lucky the support I have had has been from the players and within the club," he said. "I haven't had a lot of support from the fans ever since I came here. The fans have not been happy with what they have seen in the whole of 2010 and since I came here we have not won enough games to keep them happy.

"That is understandable in the sense that they were hoping when I came here the latter part of last season would be forgotten and we would start flying again. That hasn't happened and as a result, as manager, you are the one in the firing line, but of course it doesn't make the job easier because it makes the players more nervous.

"I can only say as a manager you have to understand that fans care for their club and want it to do well and when it is not doing well they voice their disapproval.

"That is the way of football today. When you take on any job, especially a big job like this one, and results don't go the way people want - especially when you lose games at home - you are going to be a target for disapproval.

"I have to accept that and try to keep doing my job and try to improve things for the club and hoping that the results turn around.

Of couse chef scout want to leave. Which chief scout want to scout on talent like konchesky.

Haha, you have a point. But the main reason is because of Comolli. He will take over scouting and hence making the position redundant.

In my humble opinion, Roy failed primarily due to the fact that he did not realise that this job is a priviledge, not an entitlement.

He lamented that he did not feel the support from the Kop. Well, all manager will be given time to prove himself to the Kop, known to be the most loyal and patience fans in the world. However, it will do you no favour by dishing out route one football week in week out. One fan put it nicely. Even if Roy is capable of the most facinating route one football the world has yet to see, we, Liverpool fans are not interested. It is akin to you are paying good money to watch an Opera but the theatre keeps featuring the top rock band in the world. End of the day, the audience will want the money back.

Secondly, he kills his support for pushing blames to ex-manager, to protest against H&G, to players to everything under the sun except taking the f--king responsibility himself. He had first asked to be judged after 10 games, then the full season, then when he has his team assembled. By that time, we would be in ruin.

Roy made it impossible for any kind of support to be built for him and now he questioned why he never experiences it. By turning against the fans is the last straw for Roy and I will be very surprise if he last the first week of 2011.

Happy New Year to all MCF bros, especially fellow Reds. We'll Never Walk Alone, through this storm and in search of the golden sky.

Losing to blackpool sometime back already pissed me off.....losing to Wolves at home....I can tell u...not only Roy's head gotta roll....I even feel Torres's head too.

Anyway..whenever Gerrard plays...the whole damn team rely on him too much. It's the tradition and culture....just like in the past...Macca...Fowler....Owen and etc.

Bolton next....they are not easy...they are tough to beat.

If that's the only case/possibility, i want the Reds to lose tonight!

(Rather to lose tonight than to lose for the rest of the matches later on.)

Tonite lor.....if the Reds can't win....he better pack it up and go. [rifle]
