Pisces69 6th Gear June 19, 2013 Share June 19, 2013 My getz a/c pipe has factory insulation in certain area. Exposed pipe is usually aluminium, they don't corrode that easily unlike sheet metal. Flexible pipe is some form of rubber. My vw van has more factory "insulation", but it's probably also to prevent rubbing against other pipes/parts and making holes. Should we wrap and try to keep the "cool" gaseous coolant colder and longer before it hits the compressor ? It's quite debatable. Fact is, compressor can't compress liquid, it can only compress gas. Perhaps the effort should be made on keeping the front a/c radiator clean and cooling more efficiently, rather than focus on the wraps. If e factory has wrapped...just leave it. I tot of doing e insulation but since an expert said no....i prefer to listen to him. ↡ Advertisement
Wesleyoh 1st Gear June 19, 2013 Share June 19, 2013 my dad is in the aircon business. The main reason why we use insulation on air con copper piping is to prevent water condensation and it helps a little to retain the coldness. Theory should work likewise for car aircon too. :)
W1ck3d Clutched July 5, 2013 Share July 5, 2013 agree, if less of the cool air getting heated up, it will take less energy to cool down the whole room. And if the steel pipe not exposed, then it would not get condesed to start with. Try put in a bottled water inside ur fridge, take out few hours later. wrap it with towel. i am sure that if u touch the towel, it will be just cold not wet. same theory applies, under the bonnet

W1ck3d Clutched July 5, 2013 Share July 5, 2013 so wrap or dun wrap is good? I think wrap is good, definitely lesser energy to cool down the cabin due to less energy used. Maybe if u use it together with good window tint, then it will b the best combination. My 2 cents

I dun face cooling problem for my past n current ride Been keeping the cooling fin and the aircon clean n regular. Again after wrapped can make a comparision before n after n decide future action. I dun face cooling problem for my past n current ride Been keeping the cooling fin and the aircon clean n regular. Again after wrapped can make a comparision before n after n decide future action. Seems like as of now nobody in this discussion can give a definate ans. The question should be: 1. Will wrap improve aircon efficiently? (Due to lesser absorption of heat) 2. Will wrap cause other problem in long term.
Spinelli_ck 6th Gear July 6, 2013 Share July 6, 2013 i had the pipe wrapped for more than six years without any issues. most importantly, i change the cabin filter once a year and renew the aircon's compressor oil and gas once every three years.
