Toyota wish queries

Bro Spidey and Pokyman...

Maybe because your Wish is still new that's why the FC is terrible? Usually after 10k km then the FC gets better.

I am just lucky that my present car has such good FC for an MPV. Also lucky that my friend has let go of his Wish and he transfers all his aftermarket stuffs to me hehehe! I never win 4D but maybe luck comes to me in a different manner haha!

Actually i am a bit surprised that you are clocking less than 10km/l...Wish is known for its thrift in petrol. Maybe cos they change the configuration from 4 speed to 7 speed and that affects the FC? I have not driven a 09 Wish so I have no feedback for you. My car reaches 300km when the needle touches the 3/4 mark.

Ya man, i got the new Wish because of the much touted FC mah ... and tho 7 spd is better for highways, i was also told by the SE and also by my limited research that the new valvematic engine is also fuel savings even at city driving, so that was my grouse ....

And my car reaches 300KM at half mark, 250km at 1/4. However after half mark, the needle drops damn fast ....

ya, will try to wait till 10K then see how ,...

Bro...

After the 3/4 mark, the needle drops fast for my Wish too... then steadys and slow down about 1cm from the 1/4 mark. By that time 600 km already.

I have just installed a front strut bar (only)...from my friend who dekits his Wish. There is not much difference imo because there is not much bodyroll for my car in the first place. I think the stability will be more pronounced if we put both front and back struts. Strut bars will help in maintaining the rigidity of the car when travelling at higher speeds and more stability in cornering.

I think for cornering, you might want to see the suspension bro. Changing suspension will gives you better cornering but at the expense of ride comfort so there is a trade-off there.

 Hah 1/4 600 km already!!!! Mine can't even touch 500!!

I must ask them to check when I send it back for servicing ..

If wish consumption like this, how the taxis survive hah

As to body roll - I feel not so bad. Mine is pretty stable as the steering feels heavy, I guess so far is the FC that is the main pain.

The aircon is also pretty cool..happy with this.

Sorry bro it should be 1mm from the 1/4 mark.

That's why I'm a bit surprised ur FC is so bad. But maybe still new ma so it's a bit erratic. Our engine spec also different so can't really compare.

Yah - thanks for the consolation bro...

and i just noticed that during cold start - in the morning, the rpm will ramp up to 2k++ and stay there for a while and the engine sounds terrible....blah blah...like diesel engine sound. After i engage a gear then the rpm drops to normal...is this normal?

I didn't have this in my previous car leh..

my car at 4000 km mileage now - will ask the service guy when I go for the 5k service. and also pay a visit to my SE and see what he got to say... [rolleyes] sure talk a lot of k@#...one!

Anyway, it's been great having this forum and learn form each other here...keep up the good work man! [laugh]

This is normal, same for NFl. Been like this since day 1, I have never waited for engine to warm, just engage gear and go. Think of it this way, car would vibrate if rpm too low - below 800 rpm. High ram warms engine faster.

Bros Spidey and Pokyman...

It is normal for most engines to rev at higher rpms during cold start. They will be at that level for a min or two while the engine warms up on its own. It will return back to normal faster if you drive off immediately. If you stay stationary and wait for it to warm up...should take about 2 mins or so.

Wish is also affected by the vibration chair effect... this happens during stops at the traffic light during the day when your rpm suddenly goes down to 600 and the car starts vibrating a bit more than normal. It will go off when the aircon compressor kicks in and the rpm went back up to 800. This is normal for NFLs and PFLs... is the 09er affected by this?

Hi All,

I'm driving a 2 months old '09 Wish, on 18" rim w 225/40/18 tyres. Always on 98 petrol (ESSO syn 8000). I changed the rims/tyres when the car was only 2 week old, so didn't really have change to collect data about FC when it was still on standard rims/tyres. When the car was reaching 1K in millage, I changed the springs to Eibach to lower it down. My odo now is about 2.5K. Allow me to add up few more data:

1. FC before 1K service was about 9.8km/l. After 1K service, nowadays about 10.2km/l. I always fill up full tank, so reading is always taken using Trip A/refill volume. Weekdays always kanna jam back and forth due to location of my office. 70% city, 30% highway. This is coming from a driver that don't really care about achieving best FC; I always floor the throttle when overtaking and cruising makes me bored to death...

2. In the morning, cold start engine, it's loud like anyone else experiences. RPM about 1.8-2K for ard half a minute, after which it will start going down and back to 800 after around 2 mins or so.

3. Never experience RPM go down to 600 that cause the car to vibrate, regardless of whether aircon is on or not. As a matter of fact, when aircon kicks in, the RPM only jerk a little bit (neglectable)

Hope this add some value to the discussion :)

Cheers,

SG

Ya, never experienced vibration when my NFL was new too..... :D hehe.

Enjoy the ride.

But really, the cold start engine is like a....i don't know how to describe this - like a motoboat engine sound! or when a car exhaust has a huge hole in it or a 30 yr old car cranking up the engine!! that's what i find it farnee....but once it is warm and fuzzy, the sweet sound of the engine is really nice... [:(]

As to the vibration effect - noleh....no problem on mine...vib free leh! even when the compressor kicks in, i don't really feel it...but in my previous Honda, you can feel the fan comming on leh...plus the sound and vibration..

that's why i say Toyota very comfy and noise free...

For me, I've never used 95 before... LOL... I remember the SE told me when I collected my car that the it is using 98, so I just continue with 98. Quite happy with it so far. Maybe I'll try to switch on my next refueling cycle to see the diff, considering the price of petrol this days...

Neutral Newbie

MTRAC,

I am on 17" rims too and NFL - 11.5 km/lit - consistent, and i ram when necessary. In stock 15" tyres also about 12.5km/lit. If 09 Wish is getting 12.5 km.lit on 15", its quite good already by 1.8 lits standard.

Yes, comparing other 1.8L makes, Wish has always been a fuel saver. But comparing, the first generation and second generation Wish, I think the first gen is has better FC.

Rpm drops below 600 and car start to vibrate is the characteristic in PFL and NFL only.

Doesn't happen in 09 Wish.

09 Wish characteristic is broken exhaust pipe sound during cold start in the morning. Understand from mechanic tht it is normal for CVT engine .. dont know real or bluff. Trouble free so far with car at 43K mileage.
