talking about that, just found out from my fren he took part in the Dubai 24-hr race recently (not the one in the newspaper, he's more low-key, only one of the four drivers in the same team who came in 3rd in the class).....

he paid to take part in the team.... 4 drivers took turn to drive for 24 hours... every 2 hours changed driver.... by the next morning, the track looked like a war zone with car parts littered all over the place...... i am not sure it's a torture or enjoyment for these drivers?

He paid $10,000 for the 24 hours + practice, car/mechanics are provided, but hotel/airtickets not....

To do the same in Sepang would have cost him double the fee but he can take a bus from sgp to KL/sepang.....

Give me the $1m i will take out 10k for the next dubai 24hrs, provided my lap time is good enough..... :D

thanks for all the inputs...

for me... if 1.2M.. i will probably buy a small condo at ard 700k for myself.. and use 400k to put as downpayment for a better condo to rent out. This 2nd condo will prob be in the 1M range.. and loan taken such that the rental will be slightly more than the mortgage.. so some balance for other misc use.. (hopefully can find freehold ones for both.. or am i too naive?)

meanwhile life goes on as normal...work as usual.. attitude prob same bah.. but will feel more secure and thus happier... and with the 100k.. probably buy some blue chips.....

wah... 1.2M is really quite little if you think about it.. but what i stipulated really works out, prob set for life already.

Retirement, checked.

If we live very very simple life, maybe just manage to survive with that 1.2m without working, here's how:

Lets say you dont mind put the 1.2m in foreigh currency deposit to earn 5% interest today, this gives you 60k a year... factoring in inflation, you can live on this 60k every year for the next 10 years, by then it's real value may have shrunk to 40k depending on how bad the yearly inflation gets..... but you dont have to work a single day !! ....... not bad?? ..... and pray hard exchange rates don turn bad and wipe out everything....

thanks for all the inputs...

Win 11m, invest the money in a diversified portfolio of bonds, lever it up, buy even more bonds.

Spend money that i have on hand, then resign from my job.

Win 1.2m, invest 1.1m in bonds, lever it up, buy more bonds.

Take 100K out to buy a PP or go for expensive holiday.

Continue working, unfortunately.

1.2million Sgd can't even pay for 1/3 of the champagne bill at a party with paris hilton....

1) But I'll invest in a condo and a small commercial unit for rent.

2) Continue working and living in a hdb(paid off hopefully, or minimal loan).

3) Throw generated rental into dollar averaging hr2 bonds/stocks basket for next 4-8 years.

4) Sell off condo and hdb, bonds and stocks and buy into gold and commodities.

5) Wait for market collapse/prop bubble to burst.

6) Buy up firesale property deals from over-leveraged people.

7) Buy in to surviving SMEs in need of capital injection.

8) Repeat step 2-7 for next cycle and retire to land of smiles.

2) Go for a nice and long holiday if possible with my family

3) Donate some money to charity

4) Give some money to my parents

5) Buy my Dad a new car

5) Redeem my sis's and wife to be's car loans

6) Go and makan something nice with my family

7) Keep $200k spare cash

8) Invest in a commercial property if there's enough left

That's about it. ^_^
