Finclk 1st Gear March 1, 2011 Share March 1, 2011 guys, I drive a copen and recently went for servicing, mechanic told me my shock absorbers are leaking. Suggest I change but as they don't carry daihatsu parts, told me to source from elsewhere or try similar products as replacement. Problem is I don't even know what type of shock absorbers i'm using so don't know how to quote and check around? Anyone can help? Also got any good workshop in the east to recommend to do the change? Thx. Also lastly, any ideas of prices? ↡ Advertisement

Voodooman Supersonic March 5, 2011 Share March 5, 2011 I replaced my 4 shocks recently, after some research and chit-chat with forumers and friends, I realised it is an area that is best left to the professionals and/or the real petrolheads. Any change to after-market parts can affect your ride and handling, wear and tear of your tyres... if not done properly. If you know what you want (ie. handling, hard/soft ride, etc.) and have time for gradual fine-tuning, it is worth exploring, otherwise, better keep to OEM parts. Note I drive a normal Jap executive sedan and am happy with the original set-up.
5936 1st Gear March 5, 2011 Share March 5, 2011 Shock Aborbers are made to specific vehicle types. Not possible to just plug n play. The usual MIJ shock mfr are KYB and Tokico
Finclk 1st Gear March 7, 2011 Author Share March 7, 2011 problem is i dunno what shock absorber my copen uses. Copen forum is closed to outside pple. They are not really open to new members. Haha.. Sad but true. Driving a copen is not enough to be a member. I can understand if it's ferrari or lamborghini club for the arrogance but omg, it's copen leh. Anyway, another matter... I'm not into zhenging my copen or what. The car is good enough to drive. I just want to find out which brands/models can i use to replace for my car. that's all.. thx! 5936 1st Gear March 9, 2011 Share March 9, 2011 That is a very frank and honest reply. Keeping your car within factory spec. Local Daihatsu AD should carry the parts right. Or you could get the part numbers from the body of the shock absorbers itself, and hunt for equalivent replacement. One more source is Monroe On-line, which is worth a try. but not sure if they make for Copen.
Caravan 5th Gear March 9, 2011 Share March 9, 2011 KYB makes for many models and brands, you may want to check their website out.
5936 1st Gear March 9, 2011 Share March 9, 2011 That is correct. Many MIJ cars are fitted with KYB. Cant look down on them. Any one visited the Museum in Malacca, I was surprised to see the "vintage" train supported by KYB for many many years.

Perhaps you want to visit RDY Autocare at AMK Autopoint. They usually sourced the parts for me (any brand/model). They can get quotations for you, too. ↡ Advertisement
