I am also for the abolishment of Mandatory Death Penalty. Death Penalty stay, but the Mandantory part should go.

We are paying our judges very well, so they should at the minimum, justify their pay scales by considering all facts and circumstances before deciding whether someone facing a death sentence, should be sent to the gallow or not. Mandatory sentencing reduces the judge preciding over such cases to a role of an executioner. The law says above this limit, presumption is trafficking and then hang. So he passed the sentence withouth activating any of his billions of brain cells to work.

By hanging Vui Kong, would it makes him the last drug mule to enter our land? If there will be many who will still try their luck, what is the difference between killing him or sparing him then?

Without the mandatory death penalty even more will try.

The Court of Appeal can overturn rulings. It can't change the law.

What is disturbing is the bit on president's clemency if the video is true. As according to it, its decided by the cabinet.

The the cabinet can be prejudice, , like the our law minister (part of the senior cabinet) already condemn him to death before any hearing of clemency.

41g is "wholesale" pure.

"retail" will be diluted, much more liao.

purity of "retail" can be just 10% or less.

looking at about half kilo on street.

imagine a half kilo bag of flour is how big lor.

More than that bro. In SG its very rare that you find one with more than 1% purity for consumption. By the time the pushers get it, its already less than 10% pure and they cut it down further.

The diff is whether MUCH MUCH MORE young people will try doing it since no need to put rope around neck as compare to the OCCASIONAL "gambler" who wanna try their luck at beating the system...

thats what the lawyer Ravi is arguing, hes saying there should be separation of powers. He also tried to apply for judicial review which was rejected.

Yes. The ruling is a hang. But the court of appeal can overturn the hang into life prison. Or maybe reduce the charge to possession.

It's not changing the law. By default is hang. But after appeal, might be changed to life. So where is the law changed there?

Yes, that can be done..... but not when our dear MR, together with that CB Ang Mo, which is not his farking problem in the first place, go boomz boomz boomz on how our system is so screw and our MIW is so "cruel" and trying very hard to discrdit the MIW etc etc..... instead of trying to deligently find ways and means to get it change to possession and have his sentence reduced..... the things got blown up like Aug 9 firework.... no room for the court to move..... so you really wonder this MR is doing for fame or really to help someone.... [rolleyes]

Really YVK family engage the wrong people to represent..... else he might still got a chance.... [shakehead]

law change as the penalty is mandatory death sentence.

mandatory mean mandatory, how to reduce???

if you reduce, its no longer called Mandatory liao.

dont understand why the misplace sympathy ppl have for a criminal when, if the drugs get through, thounsand more will suffer.

Ppl believe in 2nd chances.

Btw, why the discrepancy? In singapore, different drugs got different limits and different penalties. Trafficking some drugs won't even get u hanged. Why not standardize the limit AND the penalties.

The law says hang and only hang, and also that the amount is too high to be possession.

The court of appeals works within the boundary of the law, so they can't do either.

Different drugs got different limit and penalties because of different degree of punishment.
