Hi ICE gurus

Currently my passive sub is driven by a soundstream 2 channel amp in bridge mono. Wondering wat are the benefits of getting a monoblock amp? Currently the performance and the power of the amp is good, i have no complains but i just wondering wad kind of benefits i can aspect from those higher end brand monoblocks which may be worth the upgrade? Afterall isn't the subwoofer job just to go boom boom boom? things like sound quality, clarity, etc etc won't come into play rite?

I am not ICE guru but I do have some hifi knowledge.

One of the benefit of mono block is that they are usually designed to produce higher power than stereo amps. Eg. for 2 amps of the same size, the mono amp will be able to produce higher power than a stereo amp.

It can be also more cost effective since you are just having circuitry to power 1 speaker.

AFAIK, its not important for sub woofer to have high quality audio. However, its important for them to have sufficient power. Thus, you need to have an amp that could match the power requirements of the sub woofer. Else, the amp will not be able to drive the sub properly.

I also have home hifi knowledge but home hifi dun use subwoofer.

Ya, i am in agreement with ur paragraph above which is why i am hesitant to spend money to upgrade my amp to monoblock cos as it is, my current setup is pretty poswerful already. I even had to reduce the gain on de amp in order not to over power my main speakers and/or vibrate my car cabin!

Thanks!

OIC. In that case, there is no point upgrading your amp. Unless the current amp is not capable of driving the sub properly, getting a monoblock hardly improve anything.

Btw, I also need to stress that being a monoblock does not mean its better. What I have mentioned is just what you normally see but there is nothing stopping any company from making inferior quality mono amps. Thus if you are really getting one, make sure you test it out first.

huh, kindly check with u guy, if i want to buy mono amp and drive RMS 200w of sub-woofers,

and if

400 watts RMS x 1 channels at 2 ohm

200 watts RMS x 1 channels at 4 ohm

and given 3 brands and all are the same spec which 4ohm = 200watts,

can i said that all bass sound is the same due to all the power is the same??????? so i just choose the cheapest

what i can get base on this 3 brands ,?

no they wont be the same, some amps produce 'cleaner power', therefore there are actually expensive monoblocks out there for sq builds(i think).

also have to take note that some brands out there are overrate their power. and some underrate theirs.. so try google-ing what you have in mind and make comparisons (and read reviews too)
