Qpik Supercharged June 5, 2011 Share June 5, 2011 Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Jun 5, 2011 EVERYDAY HEROES Samaritans help trace hit-&-run driver By Melissa Lin RETIRED senior education officer Cecilia Lim was leaving the carpark of Hougang Mall in her car last year when she saw a truck driver hit a parked silver Toyota Wish while reversing his vehicle and drive off without a word. Upset and feeling that 'it was very irresponsible of the driver', the 60-year-old memorised the truck's licence plate number and tried to record it on a Post-it pad with a pen she had kept in her car. Unfortunately, the pen's ink had dried up. I pressed very, very hard hoping it would leave an imprint,' recalled Madam Lim, who then left the note on the windscreen of the car, together with her contact number and details of the incident. The sight of the scratched and dented car shocked its owner, welfare worker Edwin Pang, 41, when he returned to the carpark later that day, after running some errands in the mall with his daughter. With the Post-it note in hand, he went to the mall's management office to report the incident. While Mr Pang was not allowed to view the CCTV footage before making a police report, the mall's assistant operations manager Mark Lim offered to scan through the clips and 'keep them until as and when they were required'. For those forummers out there who have carried out similar acts, though your stories might not have been published in the papers. Your thoughtful acts will always be appreciated by the victim and you all have set a good example to all alike. This story aside, how many of us would actually leave their contact no. should they damage a car?? And what is the protocol should one intend to leave their contact? I think it is natural for someone to feel apprehensive leaving their contact cos there is always a risk that the victim might pull a fast one on them. ↡ Advertisement
