The key point is out-of-the-box functionality. If one has to rely on hacking to get the functions working then there's no point making any comparison because Android phones have these functions out of the box.

look at his initial posting. mention rooting. since he mention rooting, i will take as its fair to include Jailbreaking [rolleyes]

Unlike you, I really do hate Apple and I have never touched their products since I sold off an iPod Touch I got from Singnet when I first signed with them for broadband services.

Proprietary connector, proprietary software. All crap. I want proper functionality and support out of the box and not relying on aftermarket firmware/software hacking methods to get back some functions.

Talking about out-of-the-box functionality, I can only say Apple is crap.

Totally agree with you on this.. I myself, also hates apple products and have never spent a single cent on any Apple product. Put it simply, the restrictions they place on their users is too much..

Dwoon, just ignore them. They are phone experts unlike us. We only pay for the phone and think of ways to upgrade it.

I myself own a Samsung Gallaxy S II and find it quite hard to operate or does rooting. If you bring this phone to any of the mobile shop, none of them know how to do rooting and also once you do rooting. Your phone will not be able to recover to the previous stage and warranty will be void.

This phone cannot operate without application, you need to install alot of application to make it process faster and extend the battery lifespan.

I have used 2 months to source for information to improve my phone, now it is working fine just that the internet connection is unstable.

Samsung rooting is more complicated and risky compared to Iphone jailbreak. So i suggest you not to proceed with the rooting and download apps will do.

Btw, there are many types of rooting so you may consult those phone experts who are good at using HI Tech phone to recommend you some of the rooting and their experience. Hope they are good and knowledgable to guide you. Remember, once you miss a step in rooting, you can prepare to buy a new phone.

Well, rooting is not required to have file sending via bluetooth and have support for Flash. Does the iphone have these functions without jailbreaking? [rolleyes]

There's no real need to do rooting for Android phones IMO.

For the iphone community, the majority jailbreak their phones to get apps for free that would usually be a paid app if downloaded through the legal channels. I won't call them cheapo because I would do the same as well [laugh]

Paid Android apps (without actually paying for them) can be found from the internet (if you look hard enough) and installed in a breeze once the app is transferred to phone.

the thing about SGS2 is that, it's fast enough such that there is almost no rooting needed unless you're advance user.. Battery life can be impoved by various simple apps available on app store..

So far, my internet got no problem at all leh

i would like to clarify at this point in time that rooting has got nothing to do with being able to install apps from non-Market sources. You can do that without rooting.

rooting is about granting Superuser (which is not really equivalent to full root access in Linux) permissions to apps which seek to modify sensitive system settings> In many cases, this involves writing and rewriting files which are found within /system folder which in normal circumstances, is out of bounds to apps.

Precisely, as i said, install simple apps will do. Rooting for SG2 is only opposing to risk with little benifts. Dwoon, you can contact me for which apps to download.

I would be kind enough to share with you. Dun feel shy to call me.

Btw the internet connection is still a problem. Sometimes it operates well, sometimes it took so long to get the facebook update or receive email.

Hopefully, there is a apps to solve this problem. I even download lighting rom, however it improves a little.

Thanks, will do so when necessary.

For a start, what's been eating me is the setup of the darn torrent search & download apps. There's afew but I don't know how to do it, let along use it independently w/o need for a PC. (There's those that still need a PC to host, but I'm referring to those that are stand-alone)

Currently tried almost all the different version of their moden, I seems the new KH4 is the most stable and fastest. Not just that, battery life also improved alot. The current Singapore version is not really that good, KF1 if I am not wrong. This phone as stock is good, but after rooting, this phone flies...

Not very sure which country one. I chance upon it when I was trying out a new rom. After updating to this version the phone data stability really up quite alot as compare to KG6 as that was what I was on previously. Surprisingly even the battery life was also better after 3 charges with my normal usage, I gauge this by wiping out my battery states in CWM. This will be more accurate in determining how good it is, thats what I normally do if I want to compare different roms or even kernels.

Stay tuned for Ice Cream Sandwich, the next iteration after Gingerbread. Rumours are rife that Verizon recently rejected carrying the Galaxy S 2 because they were busying preparations for a 4G Android phone. There are two rumoured actually.

1.) Motorola Droid Bionic (4G LTE)

2.) Samsung Galaxy S 2 (4G LTE) * might be rebranded as Samsung Droid Prime

And these two phones might be among the first to carry the Ice Cream Sandwich, YUM!

Meaning must change phone ?

If you look here, there's a KH4 firmware, but it's not Samsung's official firmware. Maybe could you check your software information and see if the versions match up with the one in the thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

And how do you wipe your battery states? I suppose you need root for that?

I gotten mine from here :

And yes, you need to root 1st before you actually have CWM in your phone. For rooting I guess you can search it up, easiest way to root is to download litening rom and it will root everything for you. Before that you must have odin to be able to root.

I going for appointment now, if you can wait I can slowly explain to you later through pm.

Thanks for your kind gesture, but I guess I don't need to root my phone now.. It's fast enough for me. Tried rooting with my DHD, took me almost 1 full day to finish everything. Hahaha..
