Paiseh bro... If im not wrong, some of the info you posted should be wrong...

Sorry but that's b-------t

PR are lesser priority in everything compared to citizen

a) lesser chance in school

b) lesser subsidy in hospital> No subsidy

c) lesser chance to buy property> No chance, only open market i think.

To mention but a few

d) lesser subsidy from town council> No subsidy

e) no govt payments

f) a lot lot more...

Whether this is the correct policy, enough or more is needed I am not going to say.

BUT to say that PR are better off than citizen is pure rubbish.

if say COE is expiring this month, do we need to re-bid, or do we automatically entitled with a renewal fee since we already have a COE.

there's a prevailing quota premium for vehicles which can be extend for another 5 or 10 yrs..no need to re-bid

Last time my parent era, public transport much worst than now, they nv even dare to think of getting a car or feel car is a necessity. I feel our mindset start to change ever since car become affordable to most ppl, ppl will start to come up with many reasons to justify buying of a car eg. work place very far, public transport cmi, need to fetch children to school/tution, wife pregnant etc.

let's go to the extreme n all start using flintstone cars. [:p]

Are you impying ... Rich = Stupid

It is about affordability, even if COE is above 150k, there will be still be people buying but they are not rich or stupid.

Can't comment about France, never been there long enough. Tokyo JR and Metro is very good. Shanghai Metro is also very good. Used to travel and accumulatively stayed in Tokyo and Shanghai 1-2 months a year. Those who say their public transport is bad because "wow, so crowded, must squeeze" --- They have many many many times more volume to manage than Singapore. They also have many many more service lines, over way way way bigger geographical area. Even so, it is still being expanded and improved continually.

The entire Tokyo metro area incl. Yokohama, Chiba and other cities has 35M people commuting into Tokyo every day to work. Singapore got how much ?? 1/5 ?? 1/10 ?? Must squeeze ?

think shld just scrap the whole COE thing, just have a higher car import tax................car price will still be higher, but at least pple can get to keep their cars perpectually............and not always have to scrap or export at 10 yrs...........not fair

Thought one of the critical factors for COE to work correctly is to ensure a certain number of cars are scrapped every month, so that new cars can be added to the road. If you keep adding more cars to the road, but fewer people wants to scrap old cars, then how ? Stop licensing new cars ?

don't say that. people here will call you stupid if you pay for high COE or even agree to do so or find it acceptable in a hypothetical manner.

i dont think affordability is a concept thats easy to understand for some of the folks here [laugh]

just because they cannot afford or find it not worthwhile to do so, everyone else must feel / do the same and call 'em names [cool]

SINGAPORE - Premiums for Certificates of Entitlement (COE) - which have surged in the past year - are expected to increase even further.

Industry players who spoke to Media-Corp said they expect COE quotas to be reduced in the next quarter. In addition, demand for cars is expected to remain high.

Mr Raymond Tang, honorary secretary of the Singapore Vehicle Traders Association, said: "COE prices will be moving up again because of the demand in the market, especially for Category A (small cars).

"This is because dealers are bringing in smaller continental cars which go into this category - and people do want to buy these models."

Mr Alvin Lim, sales consultant, Komoco Motors, said: "Quite a lot of the taxi operators, they have to get COEs as well in order to put their taxis on the road.

"For this reason, they bid higher - as high as possible in order to secure COEs."

Dealers said the higher prices are driving customers away, with some turning to second-hand cars.

Mr Tang said Singaporeans are look ing at used cars because of the substantial difference in price between such cars and a brand new one.

"The difference can be about S$30,000 to S$40,000 if you opt to buy a two-year-old car," he said.

If the rise in COE premiums continues, dealers said smaller distributors will be driven out of the market.

Dilemma: car only 2 years plus. To trade-in for newer but better used car or to keep it (no ABS and going North more often)?
