I think the point is $20 sun glasses. I'm more worried how can they make a quality product for $20.

Of course if all the certification is in place, who would want to pay for a more expensive product?

hahaha, many so called quality products actually cost very little to make. It's the mark-ups especially at retail level that make them so high and appear so "quality".

I have copper lens in the kit. But haven't use since day one.

Maybe I will rig up for trial.

Thanks.

thats why in my car i got 2 types of polarise sunglasses

for normal bright or early morning will be the grey

while evening, cloudy and rainy will be copper (i use to wear brown lens but the pair broke after my kid sat on them)

some people say i'm nuts for wearing sunglass during raining day

but people forgot in day time when it rains, some sunlight shine at the rain water making it reflective glare

The diff is u pay for the "brand".... Alot of ppl are suckers....

Alot of other products are v low in production costs. Once they stamp a brand logo on it, the price jump 300%.

In sunglass, so long as it's ceritifed by international standards, u shld buy it.

That sunglasses in Esso stations are properly certified and it only cost 39.90.

As far as I know, Australian standards is the best, coz they are v anal about uv protection. As you know, Australia has a big ozone hole and uv rays are v high there. So their products are uv protected whenever they can. Even their hats/caps and clothes have uv protection. Aust garment is v strict in insisting these products have certifications.

It is said that u can buy any sunglass in australia, without any fear that u bought a lousy one coz every model needs to pass the aust certification before it's allowed to sell in market

I doubt it is certified. There is no mention of certification or certification mark.

Nevertheless, it is pretty good imo. Just bought the brown tint one couple of days back. [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup] Very satisfied for $39.95 spec-cover sunshade.

Dude, it is not the certification of UV protection or polarised. It is the quality of the lens (clarity, resolution, diffraction, etc)

I have the $40 polarised glasses bought from pertrol kiosk. I also have a $200 RayBand. Besides, I also have a $500 Oakley HD glasses.

They are all "UV certified and polarised"(or at least claim to be so). But when I wear them, I can tell the difference. Obviously, the $500 oakley is not 10x clearer than the $40 pair, but the comfort and clarity to the eyes is definitely noticable. When I first wear the Oakley, the first thing that came to mind is that everything seems so clear. comfortable and sharp. My eyes are very fussy over inferior lenses, they get tired very easily probably because they have to work hard to compensate the focus of the poorer lenses. The $40 glasses works well in terms of polarising the light, but my eyes get tired after 30 minutes on it. Even the Rayband one gets me tired. But I can wear the Oakley one forever without feeling any tiredness in the eye.

Thesedays, I even wear the Oakley one when raining heavily. People thought I was crazy, but it really cut through the rain mist and give me a good contrast of what is in front.

Eyes is a very important organ to us. I suggest not to skimp when comes to vision. Try a pair of an expensive Oakley or whatever....use if for at least 30 minutes while driving. You will be surprised.

I was at Esso just now and went to check out the $19 sunglass that offers 100% uv protection, and $31 models that offers 100% uv & polarized lens... Can't tell where they are made and made of what material at all.. Looks like the ones I saw in Laos that cost usd5...

Wonder if they work as claim..

I agree with u.. $20 glass can never be the same as Oakley. In Singapore oakleys are sold too expensive and over prized.. But in USA, they cost 2 x cheaper than they are in Singapore.. So it's 100+ for one that cost close to $300 in Singapore.

The cheap ones gives me a dizzy spell after 10 minutes of wearing due to vision correction of the lens and brain.. No problem with the oakleys.

Rayban I am not sure as have never owned one and tried one.

Yup it's certified. U can see it from the small paper card that is attached to it. I'm v particular abt such things, so I bother to check and read everthing.

I'm talking abt the brand "Skyline". There are other brands that sold in Esso stations. I dunno about those brands. I only know Skyline.

No doubt about the over priced part.

But Oakley glasses is not something I would like to ship through airmail or through Vpost.

I buy and sell many things over the internet, but Oakley glasses is not something I want to risk through internet.

The customs does open up the boxes, and if the glasses is clearly written outside the shipping label, then you get risk from the logistic guys and the delivery man as well. Recently, I bought some food bars from a supplement shop in US. It is sold at least 3x cheaper than GNC here. I bought straight 6 boxes (each box, 20 bars). Upon arrival, 2 boxes were missing. Luckily, the supplement shop in US quickly sent another 2 boxes down although I know it is not their fault due to their great shipment record to me over the years. So can you imagine...even cheap food bars they take....what more about Oakley glasses?

So unless one can go to US and buy it themselves, I rather pay more and get it locally.

Buying sunglass is not just the uv and polarized

It's the fitting to your face and head that is also impt.

The fitting is at your nose bridge and ears. U get one the is too tight or too loose, u will get dizzy and eyes pain.

So it could be due to loose fittings that u r having.

Another factor is a good sunglass needs to have thick side frame. The frame must cover the sides of yr eyes. This is to prevent stray uv and sunlight getting into your eyes. The sunglass shld wrap the face round.

Pretty sure it is not due to frame.

it is the make of the lens. Not all lens are made equally even if they are the same design. The material and element used make a big difference.

A polarized Oakley is not cheap.

Polarization cuts through reflective light so that is why it makes everything looks clear when it rains during the day.

And with the proper lens color, you get excellent vision.

It is unfair for me to promote oakleys as I get 'free' sunglasses from them to try but they do have high standards for their lenses. Their lenses are good because they do not distort the light coming through the lenses so you get correct vision. This is not visible to your naked eyes but distorted light coming through the lens makes your eyes work harder to correct your vision. This is why some people get headaches or tired eyes when using most sunglasses. By the way, I do get sunglasses from other prominent makers to 'try' so I did make my comparisons.

some say polarised sun glasses.

but I onl have the polarised grey tinted type, so wearing it in that condition will be like driving blind.

I am looking for the polarise yellow or orange glasses which has higher VLT.

Take the brown colour tint; it's the best compromise. Yellow is too light for bright day, gray is too dark when you pass through shades and enter into MSCP.

agree. i hv a oakley with polarized brown lens which i use for driving. they are bright and cut glare. so if sunny no prob, can still see comfortably. if dark, still can see properly (e.g. go into tunnel, mcp etc). they are also good during rainy days. i also hv the non polarized grey lens but they are too dark for driving.

i am using Vistana Eyewear over prescription glasses.

~ US$59.90 shipped to Sg.

Saw it in Malaysia selling for RM300.

It is very comfortable to wear for a long period of time.

weigh next to nothing on your face and I have very oily face.

The only negative thing about them is that I wish the lenses FEELS tougher ... not that its not tough ... :)
