Once you get a conti car, you won't wanna drive a jap car especially if you're the sort that like luxury

I think it depends on what sort of conti you have owned before, and what sort of Japanese car you are looking for. I wouldn't mind a Mark X or even Camry 2.4.

That's just much of a sweeping statement to make.

Eg. A Japanese Lexus LS460 versus the Conti likes of BMW 3 or even 5 series? Citroen C5?

Gotta compare apple to apple.

And personally, I'll go for the Lexus IS250 over the BMW 320i, .. will get the Nissan GTR over the BMW M3, ... etc.

In general if you were to compare most conti cars with most jap cars, you'd find that conti cars have better interiors. Well maybe because most japanese brands don't focus on luxury but simple and economical rides, other than lexus. The thing about jap cars is that they look cool on the outside but the inside doesn't give a really good feel. Just take the gear shifter of most japanese cars, they don't have leather wrapped around them. Whereas most conti cars have leather wrapped around the gear shifter. Most conti cars have a more solid feel when you close the door in comparison to japanese cars which tend to feel rather light.

Yeah. Drove a friend's E92 320 coupe. The door is solid. The feeling of getting into the car is definitely much better than getting into your average Jap sedan. It's covered with leather all over. The car is really quiet. The brakes bite very well like how a conti car is supposed to brake. Plus a 1.8m tall guy like me can get inside comfortably. All the cool features that it has makes it feel luxurious. Wish he could have lent it to me longer but i was merely doing him an errand. Too bad i'm not rich like him if not i'll get one myself. Maybe the 335i. I'm not saying that japanese cars are bad but given a choice (if money isn't an issue) i'd still get a BMW or a Merc for a car which is used daily.

Driven a vios and altis before, their doors feel rather tin can like. The shifter for the auto tranny is really dated, the brakes are average, the power isn't there. However i must say that it's a good attempt on toyota's part to make the seats look luxurious by having them upholstered in perforated leather. The altis is a decent car although given how new it is, the interior should be a little more modern. Even as i drive my old w124 Merc, i feel more comfortable in it than in the vios or altis. The seats are bigger, the ride is smoother and the sound insulation makes the car quieter.

Mark X - Yes. Nice V6 engine & 6spd same as Lexus IS250.

Camry 2.4 - MIT, yak..

that door is pretty light if you compare to merc or volvo.

I have to disagree .... owned the E90 and currrently driving the W204 .... the door for the BMW feel more solid compared to the Merc.

The japs are way behind the BMW if one compare "How solid are the doors for the car ?".... it does make me wonder why the Japs cannot build door like the many contis around.

320 build quality is good...the seat is solid hard...giving the down to earth feeling...interior design wise is plain but neat..but the power is really very weak...i floor the trottle so hard but is still not moving keen enuf...i would say go for 325 and above...

my mark X feeling abit floating...and the seat is soft leather kind..dun have the solid feel ...handling wise not as good as 320.....the only good thing is the space is bigger and power is good.

i've been deciding the 2 options above for very long...eventually choose the later coz power is something that can wake me up everyday...the rest marginally good enuf can liao...no matter how solid the build quality are..u will soon get use to it and no surprise later on.....my 2 cts

ermm i wouldnt say build quality is good.. its a good drive no doubt but i have afew complains...

to be honest i am not the kind that takes GREAT care of my car...but i dont think i trash it etc

2yr+ after i got the car.. E90 320i... found a tear on driver seat..near the position of my back. Checked with PML they say leather seat warranty only 2 yrs and this is user fault/wear and tear. Leather can tear by itself?!?!? if its near my butt area i guess i can understand since i wear jeans alot..but back area? okie give them benefit of doubt..

Next from year 1 - year 2..door jam twice..they came to replace the fuse and someone i know in PML said this is a common problem...

Also i had to change my brake disc after driving car for abt 1.5 years...brake pad i understand but disc?? wear out so fast? was stop BM have better stopping brakes etc so wear out faster...sounds fishy

well i hope its the dealer with service issues and not the car but i sold it after 3 yrs...

Next BM i got was thru PI ... better service in my opinion
