Hi Guys, was wondering if there is infra-thermometers for dogs available locally for dogs...Need to find one urgently...My dog has been diagnosed with tick fever and doctor has asked me to monitor his condition for these few days..

I do not want to traumatize him further by shoving a thermometer up his ass...He has been sleeping soundly after medication and I do not want to wake him up unnecessarily..

If you are a pet owner, you will know dogs will die from tick fever...Dog's blood platelet count is on the low side...so will need all help I can get...

I have seen a thermometer that is actually a small flexible strip that you can stick on the forehead,

and it has a bar with colour indicators to show the approx. temperature. It may take some time for

the colour indicators to change colour, but is relative safe and easy to use, and think can be found

in pharmacies.

It look something like this:

Thermal imager is available under the Fluke brand but cost few thousands even for basic model.

Should measure temp from their ears as it is about a degree higher there.

There are thermal label types just like for kids.

i reckon your vet had given you anti-tick medicine for your dog?

if you still feel uncomfortable, do send your dog to the vet again, need not to wait for few days.

did the vet give you something to get rid of the ticks in your house, etc.?

ticks can breed very fast and in big population, they can breed almost anywhere, clean up your whole house and kill them all!

I am not sure if you can use human ones on dogs. I have 2 (human ones), none work on my dogs. Btw, have to take temp from the ear if you have the pet's type...otherwise, you will have to use the normal ones and up it's anus.

Hope your dog recover from it. Has it been confirmed to be tick fever? It can be very serious. Btw, what breed is your dog?

The dog may not have tick at this moment. Tick fever can be transmitted to dogs a few days after it has been bitten...some lasted for years. So even dogs are spot-treated monthly, which does not stop it from biting the dog but kill it after it has done so, are not spared.

TS,

I hope the vet is taking a more pro-active approach rather than a wait-and-see one. Tick Fever can be very serious and fatal. The dog's condition can turn for the worse very quickly. May need blood transfusion.
