In the end calderon moved back thinking Lin was going to drive, & instead he took 3pt. Most players wont take a 3pt shot as that is lower % shot than 2 pt lay up. Harvard brain at work... He was looking at the coach to ask if a timeout was required... the coach was also smart not to take it... he decided that by not calling a timeout, the opponent would not have time to run any defensive play... I think he was trying to see what the defence can come up with. If calderon didn't give lin that much space, lin would probably drive into the paint since he had been quite successful in doing that the entire game.
