i only follow the GPS when im near (within 2-3km) to my destination.

Many a time I dont. Some suggested directions are idiotic. Like from Tampines to Bartley Road East filtering left to Airport Road and turning right to KPE. At the junction with Airport Rd, my GPS tells me to turn left towards Eunos Link and make a U turn towards KPE.

That means the GPS navigation you are using do not have an updated map. That's why it's important to buy GPS navigation that has the updated map to make your navigation accurate, an eg. is using GPS navi that's using SLA(SG Land Authority map). But sometimes if the locality is newly constructed and map is not updated, there's nothing you can do. What you are using is more or less a guide, it has no built in artificial intelligence.
