Need to travel to Germany/USA in the near future so would like to know more information on this.

apologize as i have zero knowledge on GPS...

U can use your GPS anywhere as long as you have the country map. Garmin is one of the best brand as it has the world's map. You will need a Europe City Naviator and American City Navigator maps for Germany and USA respectively. Original maps are not cheap though.

I've been using my old and trusted Garmin Nuvi 660 for my driving holidays in Europe. Accuracy is almost perfect (almost as at times the GPS goes haywire - probably due to Sat error).

If u respect IP rights, then u will need to purchase the maps from Garmin. It can cost as much as your GPS. Navigate to Garmin to check out prices. There are other means but it cannot be discussed here. U can visit local GPS forum - malfreemaps or malsingmaps to learn more about GPS.

Any bros here can share where to download updated garmin maps for sg? and steps do download on the memory card.

Go to malfreemaps or malsingmaps (google for the address). They offer free SG/MY/Thai maps.

Sorry to hijack, my Garmin Nuvi 1460 keeps rebooting now. Not sure how to solve it. Anyone got this issue?

I suggest you perform a master reset. To do a Master Reset on the nuvi

Tried this before, the reset message didnt come out when I hold the lower right hand corner. I will try a few more times and see.

Also it keeps on rebooting even when I connect to PC.

Don't buy Garmin GPS. No local support at all. Warranty period, if unit breakdown, must send the unit to HK. If your hand phone got GPs, go buy a navigation app. More worth it.

Don't worry abt US and germany. When u rent cars there, it will come with GPS. Even if dint have, u can ask for it

Gps is a standard feature there. Unlike SG rental cars.........

U need to pay additional for GPS when u rent with it.

Your GPS can be used worldwide. It merely tells u when u r on earth. U will need a map overlay to tell u exactly where w respect to the surrounding (if not, it is just plain coordinates). U can buy Europe or USA maps. Pls be advised that maps can cost as much as your device.

With no prior experience in Europe, I'm able to navigate thru' Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands and France. GPS is such a wonderful invention and it redefines how we spend our vacations. No more travel agency!

Send to Taiwan, IIRC, it takes around 2 weeks but it hardly breaks down, I own a Garmin GPS since 2007 when it cost 900+ (Garmin 610, which is still in good working condition now). A phone equipped with GPS feature is just not the same as one build specifically for automotive navigation, I won't even initiate comparison in terms of the interface and functionality between the 2 as it won't be meaningful.

Mine broke down in less than 1.5 years. I think electronics things, hard to predict. Still, having to send overseas damn troublesome. Must pay for 2 way freight.

iPhone still the best. Use either Tom Tom or sygi.

I got the feeling that the Nuvi 3 and 6 series back then were better built than today's 4 digit series. Garmin has probably compromise a little on quality to compete low cost from new brands.

I won't be surprised. My wife older garmin nuvi seem to last forever. Mine was the 1460.
