Drivers misusing the car horn?

Never used my horn once in 2 weeks driving in North america. Came back to Sg the next day already started using it.

Has anyone come across relatives or friends who are 2 different person when they put their hands behind the steering? Nothing to do with this incident. Just out of curiosity.

I think TP ever clarify before that there is a distinct difference between parking and stopping...... that's why double zig zag line means no stopping

Well said. Parking and stopping to drop off passengers are two different things. If stopping means parking/waiting, then it is almost impossible to drop off any passengers in Singapore except carpark lots.

I have tried not using the horn for a long time. But I think it's not possible, everyday, I have drivers cutting me from the right to turn left (from their lane), and we're both in the going straight lane. I have drivers slowing down to 30 in the middle of a 3 lane road then make a sudden left turn, THEN, jam brake, holding up the traffic because, no signal and nobody wants to give way.

 

I have drivers coming into my lane and they are only half vehicle in front of me, without signal.

 

In my opinion, it's difficult not to use horn.

 

But in TS's case, the driver could have a little patience, seeing that he already made effort to hasten the alighting. I have seen car drivers and their passengers, stopping at a filter lane, sharing a goodbye kiss, hug and probably a little grope before kum wan alight.

 

Somehow, I was always able to anticipate any joker's action before it happen.

 

Hence, if I sense some stunts coming soon, I would have slowed down and give way.

 

when comes to driving, my motto is, if in doubt, give way.

 

Hence, never ever need to touch the horn for years now.

 

Most people use horn because

 

1) They refuse to give way since it is their right of way and they want to blast the other driver off their way

 

2) They want to vent their anger on the other driver.

 

Both the above are not applicable to me.

I ever tried queuing with the taxi as my friend waited at the stand for me to pick up. I didnt want to stop by the side to obstruct other vehicles moving out.

Guess what, the taxi driver behind me keep sounding his horn. I went down and ask him what is his problem and he said I am not a taxi so cannot join the queue. I told him I am not going to snatch his passenger and is moving together with the queue. So he expect me to stop by the side and hog other cars or stop infront of taxi stand to block the taxis coming out.

He wind up his windows and continued mumbling..

One thing I noticed is that a lot of drivers here tend to horn simply out of reflex or bad habit rather than real anger. Noticed this in both my uncle and some of my friends, they can simply horn at someone who filtered in (not abruptly, with plenty of space), or slowed down (again in a normal way, not unreasonably slow) to make a turn, while still happily chatting to me.

 

Did you ask them what made them sound the horn?

Good morning!!

 

I met a Suzuki Swift driver this morning who honk my wife when she stopped at the road side for me to alight. I recalled that she had turned on the hazard indicators 3 seconds prior to stopping. Slowly down gradually instead of abrupt braking. It took me 3 seconds to alight and close the door. The moment I opened the door I heard the honk from this Swift behind. It was a single white line (center) and it was not at a filter lane or zebra crossing. I wonder what was in the mind of the driver?

 

Have you come across drivers (including friends) who experience pleasure out of honking (venting of fustration) instead of showing displeasure about other road users behaviour. A typical one but not seen everyday are drivers that speed up when another car moves (with more than enough clearance) into its lane and honk all the way.

 

Maybe I should have alighted, walk to the swift, knock on the window, point to the center white line and recommend him to keep a BT book in his car. Pass TPT doesn't mean one can discard what they learnt in BT and FT.

 

 

Why complaint other road user when you were wrong in the first place?

Pity to say if you still feel that you /your wife did nothing wrong.

Just think again.
