Jtay 1st Gear August 15, 2012 Share August 15, 2012 put it this way, if the transport company need is discipline and stringent SOP for maintenance and customer service like in the army. An army person is better than a fancy speaking salesman who promise the moon and the stars :D Yes, that is true. In fact, if you have worked for Desmond, you will find that he is not the typical army guy stereotype. He is composed, eloquent, flexible and always willing to listen to the views of his staff. And this trait of being willing to listen would certainly serve him well in SMRT.

Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear August 15, 2012 Share August 15, 2012 (edited) Quite sad to note many talk down on our SAF's capabilities, while the freigners that have benefitted from our SAF's help have nothing but praise for our Armed Forces. It is fact that SAF took over operations that contained SARS for Singapore. It is fact that only SAF could muster 3 LST's worth of food, medical and infrastructural aid, combining military and NGO's expertise and resources for boxing day tsunami. Our soldiers arrived first and had to clear the debris and sadly, dead bodies, to make the first landing possible. It is fact that when Christchurch was hit with earthquake, our Bde, which was there for normal training, immediately reconfigured itself into No Duff operations and started relief efforts, again, before anyone else. It is fact when Katrina struck, our airboys were, again, the first foreign aid to arrive. The SAF commanded JTF151 against piracy in Gulf of Aden, and also Timor Leste peacekeeping efforts. Our soldiers are still fighting shoulder to shoulder with Australian, US, British and Canadian forces in Afghanistan, and have received accolades for what they have done. And the thanks the SAF personnel could see on the eyes of those we've helped meant millions, a testamount of SAF's true capability. Yes, we take it not everyone has had the best of times over your 2 to 2.5 yrs (older) of Full Time NS. But we should not doubt what the SAF can do when rallied. This is the 3G SAF, our SAF. MLS Clutched August 15, 2012 Share August 15, 2012 I wonder why there are so many criticism over the new appointment. Why not suggest names on who better to take the role rather just complaining behind the computer? Complain as though you have the qualities to take on this job. Is complaining at every small fark thing the only thing Singaporeans can do?

I think could taking the comments wrongly. While the SAF has made some significant contributions to the country and has achievements, it is simply wrong to assume that someone who is successful in SAF will be successful in the corporate setting. Would you allow the top brain surgeon in Singapore to do heart bypass for your love ones? I mean the brain surgeon is also a brilliant doctor and is smart and has achievements or would you have a heart specialist? If you say no to the brain surgeon, would it not be strange if someone lecture you on looking down on the brain surgeon's achievements?
Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear August 15, 2012 Share August 15, 2012 I was referring to the posts that imply our SAF is not what it is. As for Desmond, I think we have seen positive accounts from those who have interacted or worked with him. We can agree let's give him some time and let performance do the talking. By performance, it's not solely about shareholders' interest as raised by some, but more importantly, the proper management of a National Infrastructure. Cheers! Actually I cant agree that he be given the CEO role immediately. I would prefer that he started in SMRT not in CEO position but in a senior role so he learns about the business before assume the role of CEO (if he is up to it). Such an arrangement would be good for himself, the company, the shareholders and for the commuters.
