You need to consider the cost after birth eg. pampers, milk powders etc.

Many of my friends' babies including that of my niece were born at KKH, not forgetting me as well..... [:p] ....just as thousands were every year.

None has complained about the service though you might not get over-the-top service compared to the private hospitals.

Do your sums and share with your wife and I'm sure she'll understand if she has the family in the best interest......btw, congratulations on becoming a father soon........ [bounce2][laugh]

Thanks everyone for the prompt respond ... appreciate ..

I do consider a lot of cost after delivery ... I dun find anything wrong with KK. Especially after recent case about mixing up 2 babies with their mother. This ensure the management take extra precaution.

So that why i dun feel like spend too much for extra top service which include more cost ... the extra cost can come up to $4 to $5k sia ...

found this following link. But only delivery package.

I need more info on all those check up ar, follow up ar, scanning ar ...

Congrats my friend!

You can also consider Gleneagles since you are also looking at private hospital. My wife give birth there and I am quite impress with the environment, service, nurses etc.

I choose Gleneagles due to relative's recommendation. Also, the gynae's clinc is located at Gleneages medical centre. So the convenience is there when we opt for delivery at Gleneagles. Overall package is about $5K plus close to $6K. Which is relatively cheaper than Raffles.

Actually, i dont believe kkh or other public hospital is bad at all. it's just a wrong perception. What you really need to spend a lot is after the birth of your child. Better to use the money for that.

Public hospitals normally will have to wait longer than the private ones.......that's one of the reaons why the price is diff.......but I've not heard any of my friend's wives or my SIL complaining about it.....

The A&E at KKH is even longer I was told and seen as well........

First of all, congrats :)

Secondly, you don't sign for delivery package so soon unless nearing delivery date.

But isn't your wife's gynae attached to already?

From what I know, gynaes do the delivery in the hospital they are from.

KK is adequate and they have everything under one roof. My sisters gave birth there too.

Both my children were born in Raffles though.

You should go with your budget, IMO. All gynaes have practised in KK before.

When my wife gave birth at Thompson (twice) the wait is always long...especially on Saturdays...parking also a headache - although the valets there are free (of course still have parking charges).

For our second one, we booked appointments on weekdays - had to take half day leave - but still ok - government gives 6 days of childcare leave per year - wait is much shorter - but still have to wait!

As for a gynae package - if it's your first, sign up to one - for peace of mind - but if you have a second one and your wife has no complications - then you don't have to.

I found that the gynae packages - although saying you save money if you multiply by the number of appointments you are signing up for - they are often simply forcing you to have more appointments than is necessary. Every appointment have an ultrasound - which is quite pointless if your baby is growing fine.

Up to you what to do.

let me tell u my personal experience about my brother... my brother has 4 children. first 2 born in KKH, nurse, mid wife and doctor all not so very very nice attitude. was actually attended by doctor john tee a very good and experience doctor, but when giving birth he cant make it in time so other doctor took over. no choice. wife keep complaing so 3rd time pregnant he changed to a Private

hospital class A ward. (my brother one of the top fund manager in singapore noa closed to 500k) so no problem to him. serviced very good. enviourment also good. nurse and doctor all very nice.

but when the baby is born. got some complication. baby nearly died. but in the end was revived, the doctors there say baby has a very high chance of brain damage. need a device call brain cooling to help him with the brain damage. if not next time might be retarded.only 3 hospital in Singapore has that, KKH, NUH and SGH. called up KKH, they say all used up by their in house paitent. althought their paitent's baby is not as badly injured but their patients has piority over us.. ok call up NUH also no more. luckily sgh still has it. went to sgh stayed in blk 5 nicu for about total of 9 weeks. they say due to transfer from private hospital minimum B1 rate... although nicu C class and A or B is all the same but due to PRIVATE HOSPITAL patient no choice min B1. total bill about $85000! if not from private hospital then can downgrade to c class bill will only be about $20k... luckily my brother super rich man $85k to him no issue.... 4th children changed hospital to another private hospital in orchard... baby born premature only less than 1.8kg.... same thingy no this no that... sent to KKH..... B1 Rate again... lucky this time only $20K++.... my advice to all parents out there i myself has a daughter. and i gave birth at KKH. althought those mid wife not as friendly as those nurse in private hospital. but i can tell u kkh is a specialist hospital for woman and children, any new technology or eq concerning woman and children will first be used there. those old mid wife has helped more than 1000 womans give birth. and there are so many of them there. those doctors in private hospital may have cert. but experience is different. u can read a cook book and memories all the receipy but a chef can cook better than u without seeing cook books. chances of baby having such problem is very seldom.. and in most cases all hospital will have the ability to take care of the babies. only in very extreme cases then they will need to be transfer. but for me safety comes first. comfort is 2nd. also i will only be staying 2 days. even if u give me a 5 star hotel is useless...

due to the baby being transfered to nicu right after it was born. not able to use medisave cause they say stay in hospital less than 24 hours or 48 hours cant used medisave. what a joke. so all the babys bill had to be pay in cash. i hope government can do some amendment to this law... really not fair... baby born with complications and had to be transfer is already very sad... still cant use medisave.... haiz.... god bless....
