Screeching sound from Wish 2008 NFL

Hi guys,

Am driving a 2008 Wish NFL. It's a second hand. 5 years old this year. Mileage abt 90,000K if it has not been tampered before (haha.. we all know abt dealers lowering the numbers.. anyway...). Since I got the car 2 years back, havent change anything on the brakes till now. The car is stock stock condition.

Here's my problem :

- Screeching sounds coming from rear of vehicle whenever i tap the brakes. (definitely not the front brakes cos I poke my head out of the car to listen when driving. Slow speed though)

- Applying light brake.... screeching comes on continuously.

- Applying harder brakes.....beginning there's a slight screech, then it's gone till the car comes to a complete stop.

- Applying brake when reversing... no sound (probably because it's too slow to create any noise)

Anyone driving same ride and encounter this problem before? What needs to be change, the damage, any workshop to recommend, contacts? SG or JB workshop also can so long as it's economical and trust worthy. If not convenient to post here, can PM me. Any recommendations welcome!

Along the way, also though of doing a general servicing plus checking of aircon... not sure it's the weather or car, it just feels not as cold when you need it. Haha..

Thanks a million in advance!

Im not driving the same model as you but my brakes were also screeching awhile back. If you have not changed brake pads, thats the first thing to do. Secondly, check your brake disc. If there are many deep grooves on it, also time to change liao cos its damaged already. Some will recommend skimming the discs but they are not expensive and new ones will last longer so just go for new ones. My recommendation is to buy the parts yourself to save some money. Many stockists carry toyota parts, Min Ghee etc little india there also have alot of parts suppliers just go around and ask them. Brake system and servicing very easy to do, any mechanic also can do. Just go to one near your house or that is convenient for you. No need to travel so far just to change simple things like these as its just not worth the time. As for aircon, try the aircon specialists like Markcool. Dont go to those general servicing one to do your aircon as they usually do not know how to do. Looks for specialists.

He din specify but 2008 should be the new one with discs right? Would be quite surprised that a modern MPV from Toyota is still using drums in 2008. If its drums then its even cheaper to fix. Change the shoe and skim the drum if its scored. Same principles to diagnose just that its cheaper to replace than discs actually. Only problem is you have to dismantle everything to check as nothing can be seen from outside.

Edit: 2008 is still the old one with drums so you are correct. My mistake for assuming discs. Nonetheless principles to check and diagnose still the same. Its squealing because theres metal on metal contact or the drum is scored and uneven.

imo, maybe metal piece lodged inside brake shoe. i paid $450 monthly svc, like robert last time, so they skim for free.... plus clean brake shoe.

as for aircon, go for professional rather than general, i can tell u worth it more...wont less....could be worse also if general is no good....

hei dian..lols
