Saabretooth 2nd Gear March 8, 2014 Author Share March 8, 2014 Ran over a poorly repaired road just after Esso station on Mountbatten Road on Thursday night. Shocked the wife.. and later the car as well. Seems that the shock to the suspension cause the drive shaft bellow to tear and throw grease into the alternator, causing it to burn out. With 3 more meetings that evening, I had to find slopes to park on and then get it on a rolling start. Super irritating especially when I had to recuit the help of some of the residents to push start the car. So...... I got it replaced at AS and now its running fantastic... BUT!!!!!!!!!! The right hand side Xenon light died on me... I think the cure for this is the have a 2nd reliable car in the household to keep the Alfa on its toes...... ↡ Advertisement

Quite solid that the Alfa can run despite all these issues .. during the CNY period, I covered 1000kms in Malaysia with the CEL on and drive shaft wobbling (accelerate, cruise, accelerate, cruise, repeat). It spoils the fun a bit but doesn't leave you stranded. I also just went for an alignment, was just slightly off in the rear after I hit a kerb. Was negotiating a narrow bend when a Volvo decided to overtake, scratched the rims as well. Although alignment slightly off the steering pulls like crazy at higher speeds, this car is very sensitive. Saabretooth 2nd Gear March 9, 2014 Author Share March 9, 2014 Count, the 159 is based on new but unappreciated technology. The car will run and bring you home safely before it dies on you. Hope you got yours sorted out Last night, Car reached 230,000km. Gearbox jumps gears. Blow into a breathalyzer for the first time in my 11 years drinking experience. I supposed you passed. Gearbox jumped gears? Upwards on downwards? If downwards, check on battery first, then the brake pedal switch, then the rest of the selespeed components

Wasn't a road block but was a parked TP waving me down. My GB, old problems. At 1st gear, moving off, it will "half-clutch" and display 3rd gear while it's actually still in 1st. Have to "downshift" using pedal shifts in order to up shift.

Count_duku 4th Gear March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 air leak usually got whistling sound and rpm fluctuation .. at least for most of us here CEL is back😱 I just joined you in flashing CEL, when stop at traffic light and idling, engine sounds like boxer engine and throbbing (probably misfire) and CEL flashes but doesn't stall. Jab the accelerator and it goes away. Haha .. This thing never ends. Will check with peter ..
Saabretooth 2nd Gear March 9, 2014 Author Share March 9, 2014 Count You got the original MAF right? When you accelerate is there judder and not enough power?
Count_duku 4th Gear March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 (edited) Count You got the original MAF right? When you accelerate is there judder and not enough power? When moving no problem, only when stop and idling (intermittently) .. Happened only today . I swapped the maf with a shop4parts unit, cel went off for a few days. Came back, examiner showed exhaust cam sensor. Changed that too, cel cleared for a week. Car drove very well, all symptoms gone until today new problem. Previous cel never flashed, just stays there. Engine never misfired before, one of the new components? Could be .. Edited March 9, 2014 by Count_duku
Saabretooth 2nd Gear March 9, 2014 Author Share March 9, 2014 If the MAF is not the exact part, even if it can work, it will not give you the right power. But if those 2 are ruled out I was suspecting coil pack, but it will also judder when you call try to accelerate using a lot of torque. But since you don't have that issue, I'm not sure already. Coil packs you have to see your misfire count.... is it higher than normal.

At 2nd gear, it jumps to R but the car is still moving forward. Even when display shows R, the car is in either 1st gear or 3rd gear. Some say is the actuator is giving problem. Other say is the ECU. ECU is considered more expensive to change so i will rather try out cheaper parts than ECU...
