Car battery lasting almost 4yrs!

U got to be kidding.

I change car battery on 24 mths regardless the condition.

thats overkill, the yuasa maintenance type battery that came original on my toyota axio is 5.5 years old (brought my car in march 2008) and still running strong, no slow cranking whatsoever, fires right up every morning. Just require topping up with distilled/battery water.

so advisable to off the aircon before cranking engine?

Yes off air-con, radio and lights before off engine. So crank without them.

depends on how "hi-tech" your car is.

Cars with hands-free keyless entry, auto this and that, etc, will see their batt up lorry within 1 - 2 years.

Those more primitive tech kind will easily see 4-5 years if owner knows how to maintain.

Yes.

Even your CD/radio also should off before cranking engine.

The high drain is AC n Headlights. If those normal CD/Radio player, then not so high-drain. Only those got ICE with 1,000,000 [shocked] watts of power then need to shutdown. [rolleyes]

Simple... buy a new one...keep in car ...if die one day....DIY on the spot... else can use for next car...squeezed every drop of juice from the old battery...

Not everybody knows how to or wud like to change a battery themselves.

Proper way is to connect a seperate power source to the electrics, then disconnect the battery so u dun lose all the saved info on the radio n ECU.

Some run the engine then disconnect but this is wrong cos if the alternator has an electrical spike, it cud damage the electrical components incl the ECU which is very expensive to replace. [bigcry]

Last time I went to Uncle Frankie (Soh Bros) n he uses a stupid PRC worker to change n he almost shorted out my alternator cos the engine was running n he almost touched the + connection to the car body. Lucky I saw him struggling n switched off my engine just in time.

I then did the battery change myself n told the worker to go do something else. [mad]

Thats why I stopped going there to change battery. Plus the battery he sold me only lasted slightly over a year when my normal is over two years.

Now I get it done at Eng Wah (Vincent) who uses an external power source so dun need to run the engine. Much safer option. [thumbsup] And his battery lasts >2 yrs.

Sent car to AD for servicing. Battery tested 78% and AD suggested I change.

How long more can the battery tahan? Can go for another 6 months or not? My battery already passed 42 months and I got nearly 36 months to scrap.

You need to recheck your battery again as i found that after you stop the car, you need to discharge the "surface charge" like on the headlight for 2-3min before you do the battery test. If not, the 78% is false reading and not the actual result.

If the battery has been tested according to procedure, then 78% is a very good result for a 3.5yr old battery, should keep it and see how far it can go.

That's partly the reason for not changing. I want to see how long or far the battery can go. Last time changed was 4 Mar 2010 and mileage was 115k. Now mileage 223k.

I member of AA so no problem changing anytime like the last time when car couldn't start after breakfast in Jurong. It was fixed within half hour.

you're right, my car doesn't come with fancy electronics and alarm system. Just a lock and unlock remote and a key to start the engine. I always turn off the a/c and radio before starting the engine.
