Why not try AlfaCity (opp of AS) for 1 more opinion? And then decide next.

EA has asked you to monitor, so should you not go back to them and tell them how/when the triggers will shut down the car and ask for diagnosis since you also paid $$$ to them last time.

I called up EA. Because when I took over the car, the DVD player and reverse cam was already installed. Now, the workshop I usually go to for this kind of things don't dare touch my car because of this issue. EA also don't wanna touch my car until those item remove. I have no knowledge of removing properly. Wah piang they tai ji here and there I kena all the blows.

Hi there, dun be frustrated with them becos it is not their fault/responsibilities. The car is purchased as a 2nd hand without warranty and such. Focus on solving it 1 step at a time. Because if a) is not done....then b) cannot happen + you dun want to spend >1.5K fix by AS (stuck in vicious cycle).

a) Why not go to a shop REMOVE all the extra electronics gadgets?

b) Go back to EA (like thingy highlighted) to a better diagnose (After a) is done)

I think this case may really need EA expertise to understand what is happening to the car

Need to get at least an output/recommendations from EA (eg: ECU spoil or ...)

That reminds me of the story. Our company use to have a black 159 wagon that is driven by expat. He experience stalling every week, called EA for help. EA give him a bunch of fuse and say if stall change fuse. He was very upset. Company sold car and got him a jap car. After I got mine EA asked me if I know the expat. I say yes. EA said they knew the problem lies in the aftermarket audio. They did not want to reveal to the expat because of his poor attitude.

I think the dealer cannot just absolve themselves of all liability here... Get them involved as well...

very tricky/grey area because after the purchase, the car camera was installed which triggered the start of the problems.

Exactly, its grey... they can't definitively say its all due to the car camera...

Back again guys from exams/reservist. oh well seems like the problem isnt gonna go away anytime soon. Was given a glimmer of hope when i drove to and back from camp and to school.Problem didnt happen and ran like a good girl. After reservist lol the gremlins decided to play with me again.

Now it gives me warning before the entire system shuts down instead of just shutting down without warning.. i guess its a plus point lmao. When its about to happen, the VDC and Hillholder check light will come on with the warning. After which, within a min or two, the system will shut down. The only way to kick back the system back on is to actually pressed on the the body computer OR let it on by itself. Seems like some wiring/connection is loose. When the system starts again, it usually tells me to check my gearbox. Wondering if it could actually be a gear box issue. During this phase, the gearbox will not go up to gear 4 and above. only max at 3.

Im actually really contemplating to ask AS to order a new Body Computer for me (2 weeks to arrive, 1.5k without labour/gst). Only thing holding me back is, what if the problem persists ? and the problem could actually be related to gearbox/VDC/Hillholder sensors/wiring ?

I felt like AS didnt really do a thorough check for me. When i collected my car from them previously, they showed me by pushing and pulling the body computer and showing the disconnection. Felt like it could be rectified by fixing the connections rather than replacing the entire thing. But again, they are the "experts" i'm not. Doesn't seem like i can "advice" on other possible causes.

The problem has become irritating rather than me being panicky. Probably due to the anticipation of it happening .

any advise or opinion ?

Sorry, i can't really offer any suggestions.

Bro... if you want to ask me about the car. I won't be able to shed much info la...

I am actually the 2nd owner. Bought direct from a owner. I drove for 9 months and sold directly to another buyer. You should be the 4th owner if im not wrong.

I owned the car from March 2011 to Dec 2011. No issue with the car at all except a flat battery. Sold the car purely bcos i couldn't stand the gearbox.

The HU and reverse cam were installed by me 2 months into ownership. Drove 7 months with no electronic issue. Thats all i can share as i really never own that car long enough...

Bro do u happen to still have the original headunit DVD player that u can maybe buy from u . because EA won't accept my car with the current headunit. And do u happen to know where u did the change of headunit?

I passed the original HU to the 3rd owner.

HU was changed at an audio shop whom i known well since my first car. TBH, he was not familiar with Alfa but i trust his wiring skills. As mentioned, didn't encounter any issue during the 7 months after installing it. If you are thinking of obtaining a spare original HU from him, it is impossible. 159 is too rare...

Thanks for the info. Trying to get the dealer to see if he can get from the previous owner !

That is a big piece of puzzle for the mystery.

Yeah man, sooner or later the whole Alfa community gonna know about my adventure lmao.

so happy for you that a previous owner can come in and provide the context :)

If you really need the original headunit for EA to diagnose....just borrow mine first and swop over

I installed car cam, no issue.

i have three blackvues running in my car. All self hard wired. Now with auxillary battery. No issues. The last time i had strange near stalling behaviour, brief moments where electrical power was lost without warning, it was traced to the car battery. Relatively new so could be a defect. Problem gone after battery replacement.

Check if they cut off original socket. Hopefully they use a cross over interface lead.
