BenjaminTay_83149 1st Gear October 26, 2015 Share October 26, 2015 Hi all, just wanted to share this little piece of information regarding the modifications allowed by LTA: The following requirements must be met for cars when changing to sports rims:a) The size of the sports rims should be in accordance with the car manufacturer's recommendations.b) They shall not protrude from the car body laterally.c) The overall rolling radius of the original wheels and tyres should not be altered. After reading this and also this: 1) The General Insurance Association of Singapore would like to advise motorists to notify and declare to their respective motor insurers any modifications (including those approved by the Land Transport Authority) made to their vehicles. Failure to do so may result in the declining of claims in the event of an accident and the motor insurance policy considered void on the grounds of non-disclosure. I'm not sure whether changing to aftermarket rims is legal, even though I see so many modified cars on the road...wonder if people get fined or demerit points if caught? Spoke to one of the Mazda technicians to find out more about our stock rims, and the first thing he said was "We don't recommend that you change the rims..." Been using aftermarket rims since I started driving in 2003. No issues so far, even during vehicle inspection. Just make sure don't get cheap replica rims and don't fit tyres that will increase or decrease the overall tyre circumference compared to stock (within +/- 1% compared to stock should be fine). Fitting a tyre profile that differs from overall stock tyre circumference will give inaccurate readings to speedometer and odometer. Another thing to note is the offset of the rims. Make sure it's within stock offset of you'll either get protruding wheels or when going over humps or uneven roads, the fenders will rub against the tyres, especially when full load. Jacklenny 1st Gear October 27, 2015 Share October 27, 2015 Hi all, just wanted to share this little piece of information regarding the modifications allowed by LTA: The following requirements must be met for cars when changing to sports rims: a) The size of the sports rims should be in accordance with the car manufacturer's recommendations. Our SG Mazda 5 is using 16 inch 205 /55, however it is standard or option to use 17 inch in mazda UK and US, with 17 inch, you have alot of tyres choices, with 18 inch, just follow the table with correct tyre size, you will be fine. I am using 225 /40 R18. Optional Size Side wall (mm) Diam eter (mm) Diff % 125/70R18 87.5 632.20 0.13 215/40R18 86 629.20 -1.20 225/40R18 90 637.20 2.35 245/35R18 85.75 628.70 -1.42 255/35R18 89.25 635.70 1.69 285/30R18 85.5 628.20 -1.64 295/30R18 88.5 634.20 1.02 305/30R18 91.5 640.20 3.68 very nice rims!! tempted to change. Superyes Neutral Newbie October 27, 2015 Share October 27, 2015 Yeah. My SE said she'll fight for open CAT if next bid still unsuccessful. My colleague was at Ubi showroom yesterday and he said he saw loads of M5 unloading from the trailers. I just ordered M5 over the weekend. My SE gave me open cat straight away, although i opted for 6 bids non-guarantee. She told me all colors have stocks and ready for collection by next 2 weeks. Wonder why ur SE need to bid the coe few rounds for u.

catanony Neutral Newbie October 27, 2015 Share October 27, 2015 Bros there, am considering the Mazda 5 for my next car as I need an MPV now for my family size. Mazda 5 looks great and is in budget as well, but only one thing which is stopping me now, the safety feature. Compare M5 to Wish, it has only 2 airbags while Wish has 6. So to M5 owners there, was 2 airbags a concern to you? I did some research, in Taiwan, M5 is also offered with 6 airbags, but don't know why in Singapore only 2. You were given open Cat straightaway is because you have existing stock in sg, whereas mine is on the way to sg and will only arrive in Nov (also entitled to ex-stock discount). By the way, which colour you chose? Mine's Zeal Red.

Gogoggo Neutral Newbie October 28, 2015 Share October 28, 2015 Interesting to note that. I also placed booking for a Titanium Flash Mica 2 weekend back, before the current coe exercise. I was put on the 6 bids non-guarantee package then but managed to secure the coe on the very first bid. However the SE informed me the car is not in Singapore yet and the soonest it will be ready for collection will be in the last week of Nov. Glad to know that you were given an open cat coe on the spot and the car is waiting for you now =) Just curious about the queuing system adopted by Eurokars.... Gogoggo Neutral Newbie October 28, 2015 Share October 28, 2015 Did the two of you managed to get anything more from your sales agent beside the standard RikeCool Solar film, in car camera and the Pioneer head unit? I am very bad at negotiations and that's all I get from my SE :( SuperYes, did the SE advised u when the car is ready for collection?

Let me share my view, hopefully, other members chip in later. I was driving Mitsubishi Lancer GLX for 7+ yrs. It has also 2 airbags only. To me, of course, I would prefer it to have 6 airbags. However, comparing some other factors, e.g. noise, comfort level, built quality, price...etc.. I opted for M5. I would say, it's a 'overall package' that wins me over. of course, each has his/her own priority. I believe the 3 common reasons most people turn away from M5: 1) fuel consumption 2) 6+1 seaters, instead of 7 3) 2 airbags Edited October 29, 2015 by Erictl76

Maybe I add some more reasons most people don't choose M5: 4) Outdated exterior and interior design 5) No smart entry and push start button But to me, the pros outweighed the cons, and most importantly it's within my budget. ↡ Advertisement
