jjandyy 4th Gear June 25, 2018 Share June 25, 2018 Sorento SX (2WD) is a great bargain between Jan - June because it temporarily escaped the 10K VES while most of its competitors (including Sorento GT) were slapped with 10K VES. Cat B COE went down to (more than) compensate the 10K VES on most Cat B SUVs. So essentially you are paying 10K lower than other popular SUVs. If you still can get a deal to register before June ends and escape the 10K VES, then I think you should get the Sorento SX. Otherwise, I would suggest to wait until July and see how the COE will go, there is no rush because the VES for other options are more or less already there. In fact, you should then also consider the GT-Line version because I feel the AWD makes the difference (at least for me). The car is very stable at very high speed including during very heavy torrential rain on NSHW. The confidence is always there. I was also considering Harrier Turbo before settling for the GT-Line last year. I am positively biased towards diesel. For me, the main plus point for Harrier Turbo is the Safety Sense features, very useful. Other than that, the build quality of Toyota is just.... Toyota. The build quality and feel for Sorento is closer to conti, I am comparing to the other conti I own. Just open and close the doors of Harrier and Sorento, and the difference is clear. ↡ Advertisement

Thanks JJ, How fast did u go when u mentioned high speed during heavy torrential rain on NSHW? What about the fact that it has no spare tyre, wouldn't u b worried about puncturing your tyre when travelling in Msia? Perhaps you should go there with an open heart and let them know your realistic offer and see if they can match. Find the SA who really need to hit his target, and nego from there. Think it jumped 7k because of the VES. instead of 10k you pay 7k and they are absorb 3k. I got 3k worth servicing credit. You can do the same if not better. Thanks Jim, Just wondering, do u think the Rikecool Premier 28 that they r giving is a good enough solar film? I thought that I read somewhere that the IRR is only 70-80%. There are better ones at 90% or higher from Rikecool or other brands. This price is super low already... the $135,000 price was probably a one-off... many here paid over $150,000 or even up to $160,000+ for basically the same thing... if the price is in your range, just go for it... Thanks Min Gern, Which colour would be better on the car, white or black? The interior is grey though. Edited June 26, 2018 by Zaini1

Red3 Clutched June 26, 2018 Share June 26, 2018 Hi folks, Jimmwong returning to the forum under my previous account which i recalled having. Funny feeling reading what you wrote half a lifetime ago and wondered why it sounds so much like yourself. Anyway. Zaini, Rikecool they are giving is shite. However rebate is only $300++. You cant pay for upgrade. So thats as shitty. I planned to use it for a year and see how, if not, I'll tear it off and go back to 3M or HO. Else you wont get to feel the diff. If you are concern about a spare tyre. Don't. Spare tyres adds weight. Hardly you'll get a massive tear. Go for run flats. Emas in Singapore is very fast. Paya Lebar tyre shop opens till 3am and change tyres like F1 pitstops. If in Malaysia, tyre repair shops are everywhere. Else on the highway, help is everywhere. The highway toll you paid includes roadside assistance. But pls tip them more, they are paid crap and they don't have a chance to eat "kopi$" like the guys in white. JJ, Yeah I have not collected to car, yet to try max out and check for stability. my previous IS V6 could do 200 like cutting thru butter, thus was pretty disappointed when I read that the harrier don't handle well at speed. I am guessing that car can take at most 170 before you lose confidence. If harrier T comes AWD that would make a very big diff. Sorry my posts are still restricted so I gonna squeeze it all into one post. Cheers

I will not state the numbers, just don't want to get into potential trouble. You can just take it with a pinch of salt or otherwise. The torquey diesel engine is very eager to go, you get into speed limit very fast and still can go further. I installed a spare tyre (full-size) on my car, just for fun of it. I bought the spare tyre kit with some bros on WA group and installed it myself. I reckon you might not need it because it is just a urban legend that you get puncture in Malaysia frequently. Just think about it, do you see a lot of cars with tyre puncture on the road in Malaysia? The probability is pretty low if you ask me, so don't bother about it. If you are so unlucky, just used the tyre repair kit that comes with the car, and the change to a new tyre. Cost less than $300. And people who said MY are full of bad eggs are just....... frogs... probably there are more helpful people in MY than baddies. Anyway, on MY highways you can call the highway patrol to help you if you have problem with your car. Also, adding a spare tyre does not significantly affect the fuel consumption as far as I experience myself. The added weight is only 1% of the total weight of the car, and the high low-end torque of the diesel engine will overcome it easily. I can't speak to japanese small cars or petrol-driven car. The AWD does seems to have lower FC because I seems not able to achieve FC shared by Sorento 2WD bros. But 800-900km per tank is pretty easy. The free Rikecool film is pretty useless, especially if you park under the sun most of the time. Get the rebate and go for better film. Don't get them started on the Rikecool because you will need to pay for film removal if you want to change later. I changed to 3M Crystalline to protect the red interior from the sun. I suppose you would recommend using 3M Crystalline solar film and Huper Optik? Actually to each his own. Some says the 3M distorts and peels. Some says HO is a SPG trying to score themselves a german bf so they can have a german last name. I have used both without complains. Higher chance you will replace your windscreen under insurance than to replace the film. There might be better brands out there but I have not used them so I cant say much. Look around if you come across a good one let me know.

I think if break down on malaysia highways, bad eggs are every where Hi Roger, bad eggs are everywhere they just come in different shape and forms. Perhaps you have had a bad experience. Whats the worst that can happen, they drive your car away with its flat tyres? Why stop then if the car can still be driven. Drive on to the next servo to inspect. Got to use a bit of common sense. Anywhere outside Singapore is unsafe and people just have evil intentions. Why travel then? Robbery happens everyday. How often do you hear that happening to a Singaporean multiply by the number of Singaporean driving over everyday. On another note, not to brag but I rode my bike as far as I am allowed in. Part of riding a bike means what you have on you had a high chance of getting stolen and robbed by anyone and everywhere. Truth is, I've never came close to that kind of situation. People will look out for you if you are nice and respectful to them. Go check out http://thewanderingwasp.blogspot.com/ if this Singaporean strawberry could do it, why couldn't you. Don't stay protected. Explore experiences.
