Can look into the US UTQG ratings for a guide too. There are 3 ratings:

 

Treadwear

Traction

Temperature

 

More info here.

 

Michelin Primacy 3 have a Treadwear 240, Traction A, Temperature A rating in US.

 

Primacy 3 ST doesn't have this rating as well as the Euro one Chucky mention, but should be very similar except for noise.

Just change to new tyres earlier. Below is the inside of the FNA stock 17" rim, if anyone is interested:

 

Details from the photo that I can understand.

- Made by Enkei

- Made in Japan

- 17 x 7j

- Offset 48

- Produce using Enkei M.A.T (Most Advanced Technology) process.

As for the new tyres, I change to Primacy SUV 225/65R17. Stock size is 225/60R17. 

 

Did some tests using handphone GPS to find out how much difference is there between FNA speedo and the actual GPS speed. There are some limitation of these tests.

- Speedo and handphone app only show speed in whole number. Can't know if it's 90.0 km/hr or 90.8 km/hr

- Even with cruise control, car can't maintain the exact same speed.

- Tests was done along different stretch of the highway, thou it shouldn't affect much as altitude is relatively flat.

- Only 2 apps were used. Waze and Speedometer Speed Box

 

For stock size 225/60R17, speed difference is around +5% to +7% vs GPS speed. Consistently get 85 km/hr on the GPS when car is 90-91 km/hr.

 

For bigger size 225/65R17, speed difference is around +2% to +4% vs GPS speed. GPS show 87-88 km/hr when car is around 90 km/hr.

 

From the calculator in tiresize.com, the circumference difference between both tires is 3.3%, and 225/65R17 is larger by just 23mm.

 

I'm those people that prefer the speedometer speed to be as close to the real speed as possible, so I actually 225/65R17 than stock size. Other reasons that I get the Primacy SUV is it's more commonly available (have to downsize for Primacy 3 ST), and I manage to get a better price for this bigger tyre than a smaller 3 ST.

 

Hope this will help other FNA owners that faces the same tyre dilemma as me  [:p]

Yes 235/55R17 is close to stock size, but the stock FNA rim width is 7j, thus 235 tyres are not recommended.

 

I paid $178 per tyre for mine.

My Primacy 3 ST when changed out at 48k, thread still have about 40%.

The Michelin Latitude Sports3 I’m using have a Treadwear of 220, Traction AA, Temperature A ratings.

 

Do note that treadwear is not standardised across different brand of tyres.

 

Example the Continental CSC5 SUV I previously used has a treadwear of 420, and the Michelin Latitude Sports3 I’m currently using has treadwear of 220.

 

However the Continental tread is almost more than 60-70% used at 26,000km where the Michelin is at maybe 60% used at 38000km. If treadwear rating is the same, the Continental should last longer. Therefore treadwear is a gauge for the different Tyre model in the same brand

My Primacy 3 ST when changed out at 48k, thread still have about 40%.

 

Nice to hear that. The Michelin PS3 on my old car was about 50k when it's scraped. Tyres looks ok too, but didn't really measure them.

Thanks for sharing your experience Chuky. But aren't these Euro and US standards control by their independent governing bodies? It's very misleading if each coy follow their own standard of measurement. [dead]

Got another poison for my FNA, so here's the experience for anyone interested. Item is a car/floor mat for the forester. If moderator find this post inappropriate, please go ahead and remove it. I had no relationship to company or product.

 

Brand: Matters

Country of origin: No idea (locally designed)

Model: 3D PU Leather Car/Floor Mat

Company: ZMC Automotive

I didn't get any 3A equivalent mats from my SE, so was looking around for a set until my friend introduce this mat to me. What attracted me to this mat is the basin shaped design, which I imagined it can hold spilled water/mud/dust better than those common flat mats. So after some discussion with the seller, I went down to take a look.

 

The actual mats surprisingly look nice. And the cutting fit the forester very well. But the mat is quite light, and seems a little thin for my liking. Take a look at the photos I took after using them for a day.

Things I like:

- Looks nice, and is someway a custom made product.

- Basin shaped to trap dust and dirt

- It's quite smooth since its leather based.

- Had those tabs on the edge of the mat to keep the mat from moving around. 

 

Things I don't like:

- A little too thin.

- PU and PVC leather are not known to last. I hope this mat can hold up for at least 3 years.

- Not easy to remove, and require the seat to be shifted back. (Can be a good thing)

- The rubber piece (where u place your heel) for the driver mat can be bigger.

 

Personally I quite like these mats as they look different from the 3A/3M "curly" mats commonly available. Somehow make the interior look more luxurious. There are 2 colors available, black and brown, but the brown looks off to me.

 

Promo price is $188 for a set of 2 pieces for front seats, and a long 1 piece design for the 2nd row.

That's a good rim!

 

Branded, MIJ, and is flow formed so that makes it lighter than normal cast rims.

 

I'm surprised that stock rims can be of such quality at this price range.
