Am looking for a good reliable Subaru workshop.

Currently driving 2.0 NA 2009 Forester.

 

I know there's a specialist in the Woodlands area,.. but where?

I was checking with my workshop as I was also looking into the diesel option(3 year old Sorento Euro 4) as my 7 year old car is approaching 180k km. I was informed that diesel cars have higher maintenance costs as the parts are much more expensive and also harder to get. Can't remember the exact name of the item but some parts cost 2x that of commonly available petrol variants. Maybe some bros driving diesel cars can chime in on this?

My mileage per year is about 25k so im also thinking of the turbo diesel option..

 

The savings from buying a Xtrail/FXT compared to buying a Sorento is already quite substantial.

 

124k vs 134k vs 164k

 

Currently driving BMW 316i:

25,000km.. each pump avg 650km so i will pump about 38 times a year and each time full tank is $100 after discount = $3900 a year on petrol

 

 

Sorento 2.2D -

 

2.2L Diesel road tax = $2200 per year

 

Diesel per litre after discount is about $1

 

Assuming 60L full tank, $60 each pump, 38 pumps per year : =$2280

 

$2200+$2280= $4480 per year

 

10years = $44,800

 

 

XTRAIL/ FXT 2.0L petrol

 

2L road tax - $1200 per year

 

Petrol (95) per litre after discount is avg $1.85 (this is more volatile than stock mkt)

 

Assuming 60L full tank, avg $110 full tank 38 pumps per year : $4180

 

$1200 + $4180 = $5380

 

10 years = $53,800

 

So there's about savings of $9,000 over 10years (900 per year) however Sorento is 30k-40k more expensive.

 

I hope my calculation is correct.. actually like that calculate like not much savings also.. $900 per year nia.

 

Of course, just assumption only. Somemore petrol price is very volatile.

 

I think ultimately i like the option of having a 7seater.. i have a 7mths old now.. probably incoming another one in 2017.. so sometimes with in laws, really need the extra seats.

 

Having driven a subaru autowrx before, i really like how powerful and firm subaru cars are..

 

Another option will be Citroen Grand Picasso diesel

Bks has been around for ages. Pro subaru wkshop. Not sure of the charges now but should be 700-800 plus for timing belt change

I use BKS at AMK a few time for my sg9 forester previously but stop going already.

Cos most of the time they always have the I owe them a million dollars face.

Give them business also give me attitude.

Haha i used to go bms then went to dynotechnica for my autorex.

 

Bms charges gst

 

Try to find a workshop which doesnt charge gst.. If not extra 7%

 

Normally when change timing belt, comes with other parts replacement.. They will tell u need to change this and that etc

Have been lurking around for 3months already. After seeing so many SUVs, my heart is still with forester. Contacted my SE today and he mentioned new FL not avail for viewing yet. The bro who gotten a preview must be a real potential buyer. Biggest question mark right now is the price compared to current fleet. Tomorrow COE if maintain ard 55k may means the softening in market demand now. In view of global economy uncertainty, many may be reluctant to take the plunge now!

Malaysia X trail is assembled in Malaysia and is half the price of the forester in malaysia. (i think..if not close to half). Our sg version is from japan. Cannot take the MY version to compare in terms of specs and safety. 

 

I don't see why it being assembled in MY can allow plastic and JP version is not?

 

Maybe someone can confirm this?

Check with Tan chong singapore and Tan Chong malaysia for accurate answer on your question?

 

If the nissan Xtrail is equipped with turbo.. plastic door also ok la..

Went Test drove FXT this morning. Like the drive and pretty confirm to buy this. However, current model left one bronze color and no more coming in. New FL still pending LTA approval. Saw the FL NA, the lights looks good. Some upgrade on interior panels to make it look more premium.

Went Test drove FXT this morning. Like the drive and pretty confirm to buy this. However, current model left one bronze color and no more coming in. New FL still pending LTA approval. Saw the FL NA, the lights looks good. Some upgrade on interior panels to make it look more premium.

Only difference is the rims, headlight, front grille and gear knob area. XV totally disappear from the showroom. SE mentioned XV should be launch next week at motorshow but no confirmation on forester launch.

Is there a new facelift for XV? Its already been selling for a while, Why launch at Motor Show?

I'm more curious about the engine and transmission changes if any will be carried over from JDM to our SG model.

The rest are mostly cosmetic but it does look a bit nicer.

That's why I'm waiting and waiting.
