Spring Moderator April 18, 2021 Share April 18, 2021 Group of 12 renegade clubs announce formation of European Super League. Big 6 in England plus 3 each from Spain n Italy are part of the 12. Chongster 6th Gear April 19, 2021 Share April 19, 2021 (edited) Will be nice if they can gatekeep properly and every game is like champions league final. But then again, do you really want to have the stress of watching a champion league game every weekend? Sometimes we just want to watch our team play Sheffield United and thrash them 5-0 it is very therapeutic ... Fooblack Supercharged April 19, 2021 Share April 19, 2021 Both founding clubs and the football leagues/govts have issued ultimatum. I think at the end of the day, the perpetrators behind this may well prevail cos money talks. They are already promising a 3.5B pie for the founding clubs to share in order to kickstart this super league. I think there is nothing much UEFA or the FA can do in this regard. They may threaten to ban, deduct points etc... at the end of the day, they will soon realise that they need these elite clubs more than the elite clubs need them on the long run. I am not saying that I am in favour of this super league. However, with the financial backing behind this, all these football clubs run by businessmen are those who only have financials as their primary considerations. Given the enormous financial implications, could it even be possible that these elite clubs be kicked out of their domestic leagues yet be even more wealthy just by being in this super league? the numbers are staggering.

Given the enormous financial implications, could it even be possible that these elite clubs be kicked out of their domestic leagues yet be even more wealthy just by being in this super league? the numbers are staggering. The grapevine talk is that the bigger clubs so called "elite" want a bigger share of the proposed new change in UCL so this could be a tactic by them to arm twist UEFA into giving them a bigger cut of the pie. In my opinion, whilst its not wrong to say that football needs the elite clubs more than vice versa, the "elite" has the obligation towards football in general as well including the community and as some bros have mentioned here, without relegation I don't see how exciting this Super league can be and being almost closed shop, it will be less attractive as the years go by. UEFA were due to announce the changes of UCL today, this big 12 have timed their release the night before, surely it cant be a coincidence and smacks of them voicing their displeasure over the new changes? BTW, not sure why PSG and Bayern not amongst the 12.

Fooblack Supercharged April 19, 2021 Share April 19, 2021 my understanding is that this unprecedented move is unlikely just a statement to gain more bargaining power on the UCL and allocations. This coordination of the elite clubs across the 3 major leagues in UK, Spain and Italy is abit staggering that they can actually agree to something like this. The only answer is the reality of the money being offered in front of them. The media backlash is already universally condemning these clubs as being greedy. All the owners of these clubs are under harsh criticism. They would already been aware of such public attention and scrutiny before agreeing to join. One reason for Bayern not being in this mix is because of their club's ownership structure whereby the majority is still locally/govt owned. Hence, they can't join in on something like this yet. For PSG, I believe it is a matter of time they realised they cannot miss out on this. Can you imagine they competing and winning the UCL next season.. but wait, this competition and the cup is meaningless as all the big boys are competing in another cup?

I do not think the FA will be daring to ban these domestic clubs out of the local competitions. as I said, they need them more than the elite clubs needs the domestic cups. With the funds at the super league, these elite clubs may be able to survive at least for the short term... but the same question is whether the EPL can survive without the top 6 clubs? all the media and advertising revenue will nose dive in no time. The best show on offer may be the the likes of everton vs west ham....

Boris Johnson has already condemned the concept . i hope all the leader from spain italy follow the same. must kick out these teams from local leag if they go ahead. despite me being a chelsea fan. the local leag cannot be hold ransom by them its like a few players from a club want 500k/week while the next highest is 200k. nothing good will come out of it Edited April 19, 2021 by Beregond ↡ Advertisement
