Italian GP revives Abu Dhabi safety car debate

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/sport/italian-gp-revives-abu-dhabi-safety-car-debate-max-verstappen-2932911

don't understand why so much fuss over race ending under SC at Monza, it was a safety issue mah.

and just to stretch the argument a bit further, Lec was on used softs and Max was on new softs, even if got 1 - 2 lap shootout Max would have taken it.

not in favour of engineering a 1 - 2 lap shootout just for the spectacle of the sport.

RC can red flag the race. Cheer the debris and race can start again.

This year, RC has been inconsistent with the regular change of Race Director

but Monza case was clearly not a red flag incident, no debris and hazard on track, just a broken down car parked one side.

I don't believe in red flagging it just to create a 3 lap excitement for the fans.

There is difficulty removing it from the track with stuck gear.

That's why safety car run so many laps

yup, to me it was a satisfactory ending to the race.

funny to hear George and engineer saying they see different colours as to whether can overtake SC or not. :XD:

must admit SC took awhile to pick up the lead car but in this case, with stuck gear car outside of pit lane, I think at least 2 more laps of SC to totally clear the track anyways. any more laps I think half the cars will run out of fuel already. :D

WILLIAMS TARGET DE VRIES FACES 2023 CHOICE AS ALPINE PLANS TEST

Quote

Williams CEO Jost Capito made no secret of his interest in de Vries after the race, although seemed to make reference to de Vries needing to choose between F1 and the Maserati Formula E and Toyota World Endurance Championship he has been lined up for.

I hope he takes Williams seat to prepare himself to replace LH (in future)

Nyck really impressed on Sunday.

let's see if Williams can secure his services.

In Junior racing series, he is not that impressive.

He only wins F2 Championship on his 3rd year.  That year, he had very weak rival Lafiti (2nd), Zhou (7th), Schumi Jr (12th) & Mazepin (18th).

In Formula E, he won once out of 3 years.

On Sunday, he really grabs the opportunity and scored points.

For Williams Group Photo, i don't see Latifi.  Not sure why

He's pretty screwed if LH already calls it quits during this year, but given he couldn't even exit his car at Monza without help, he'll need a year even to get up to Lewis' old-man-fitness. At the same time I don't think TW would put a rookie into the Merc with GR but the question would be who would replace LH next year?

A partnership with Alex should be good for Williams' improvement.

All drivers have a fitness trainer.  Likely he doesn't have a trainer now.

He needs to get a trainer now to prepare himself for next year drive.

LH unlikely to retire by end of the year.  Maybe he wait for Alonso😂

Russell hss prove himself to be a reliable Merc driver even though Merc is not a competitive machine yet.

Short e-prix doesn't require much fitness.

George proved himself against Bottas last year already but this year his head is in a better space than Lewis' since he knows his time should still come. LH doesn't have that luxury anymore so this year he goes through the motions only. George is ahead this year on merit.

I think Lewis could anyway quit before Alonso given his five extra titles - he doesn't have to worry about him and just concentrate on whether he feels can do something better elsewhere. He could take inspiration from Seb instead. He could equally just accept he is unlikely to beat the Schummie record after all, which could be equally fair if his feelings about Schummie are truthful but I take a large pinch-of-salt with anything I hear from Lewis. The only thing I could truly believe is his feelings for Senna.

FIA explain controversial Safety Car ending to the Italian Grand Prix

Quote

Sky Sports F1’s Ted Kravitz said what had occurred at the end of the race should also have been what happened at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2021.

https://www.planetf1.com/news/fia-statement-italian-gp-safety-car/

Ted is beginning to spew nonsense of late. During Dutch GP he also said Yuki's retirement "smells fishy".

Brexit ppl just want Brexit ppl to win one lah ... knn ... [thumbsdown]

‘Ferrari can’t win anymore, the F1-75 eats its tyres’

Binotto added: “Since the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Red Bull has been the better car. Not on Saturday but in the race.

“Our tyres degrade faster. They get a better balance than us and we have to work hard to understand that.”
