You can go up the monkey park hill beside on the opposite of the river. There's some outdoor play equipment nearer the top, swings, slides etc. Can get a view overlooking kyoto.

If u go up stream from this cafe, your kid can go down to the creekside and throw stones at the riverbank.

They sell udon on the side facing the river, it was too long a queue so we went inside the back one which sells tofu and tempura... and they served us early so we can catch the train

Very nice! I took the Sagano Scenic Train in mid Dec in 2023 and the leaves were mostly burnt by the heat... it was much warmer that year... so I think autumn was much later...

couldn't get the tickets last year when i went. But it's ok. Spent about 6 hrs in arashimaya nonetheless.

We left very early to take the first available train... got to plan for this... even in winter, the demand is through the roof... the bamboo forest was just overflowing with humanity...

Our last meal was an odd choice by my wife - Italian, I guess they were a bit tired of salty and oily fare, so they opted for salty and oily Italian fare, haha

FYI there's a food court at the back which has many good options, so don't just visit those in the front row..
