Having the an electric vehicle battery's State of Health (SoH) report will become increasingly more important as time goes by. This will tell a future owner how many kms the ride can do on a full charge. 

Eventually people will figure out it's less to do with mileage or age of the BEV.  

So far, no one in Singapore is reporting on a used electric vehicle battery's SoH when advertising. Would insist if buying a used BEV. If seller doesn't want to provide a SoH report, then they're trying to hide something on the most expensive component of a BEV.

The following chart should make Toyota, all legacy automakers as well as the petroleum industry shudder.

It now means that the most expensive component of a BEV (batteries) is has reached price parity with ICE at USD$100/kWhr and the trend continues downward. In 2025 it was at USD$90/kWhr. The transition to New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) will now be driven by economics more than government policy support. Particularly for LFP battery chemistry coming out of China.

I recently wrote in to LTA to enquire about which safety standards they used to approve BEV traction battery during homologation process before a vehicle is allowed for sale in Singapore.

The reply basically stated that one of the standards they used is United Nations (UN) Regulation No. 100.

I asked about China's GB38031-2025 and the reply was they are aware and will continue to keep pace with technological advancement.

I asked AI to help me compare and contrast the 2 standards; the reply was fairly lengthy so I will just copy and paste the summary here:

If you're a battery manufacturer targeting both markets, compliance with GB 38031-2025 will generally satisfy—and exceed—UNECE R100 Rev.3's thermal propagation requirements, though you will still need to complete the separate R100 vehicle-level electrical safety assessments and E-mark approval process.

CATL is doing something to make owning an EV more affordable for owners in the long run. The goal is to reduce cost of repairing a battery pack by 90%, which will normalize insurance claims for BEVs, to rates that are comparable to ICE rides. So the cost of insuring a BEV ride is expected to go down in the future as insurance companies doesn't have to completely write off the BEV due to a minor damage to the battery pack.

CATL will be rolling out vans and workshops that can do diagnostics as well as deep individual cell repairs of not just only CATL batteries but by other battery manufacturers as well. I.e. BYD, Geely, CALB, Gotion, etc. The repair vans/centers are already available in Norway, Thailand (Bangkok) and Saudi Arabia (Riyadh). The goal is to have a 100 cities world wide with these battery repair service centers/vans sometime in 2027.

CATL claims their Ning service can repair 77% of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) that are in production today in China. 

The battery after market future is here already. Question is when will CATL have their workshop /vans setup in Singapore?
