Exhaust Thermal Barrier Coat - I did that 3 months ago... effects good.

Where did you get this done, how long to wait and how much did it cost?

This one is done at AutoFix 5th Floor Sin Ming.

Not cheap though at $280 even though I remember many cars paid a lot lower esp during the early days this prdt is brought in by LordGT.

What it does is to insulate the exhaust manifold so that it does not cook up the engine bay. Its actually a paint that is applied over the manifold, nothing high tech (except for what is in the paint).

The mech has to remove my exhaust to paint it as certain parts he couldnt reach. Overall, the response of the car is very much improved during hot days. If you can tell a major difference driving during the hot days and night time , then maybe its good to consider this coating.

If you are going down, can quote my silver Fabia SCL plate (with spoiler and sports grille), I believe I am the only Fabia that has done this.

Hi Raptor,

Thanks for the info...the filter can be washed and clean though according to KW... [nod] so hopefully don't have to replace it everytime service. I have replaced my previous car with K&N air filter and it does not improve much, thats why thinking of replacing the whole filter box this time round... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

I rem I bought it at Sporting Motocycle along Lavender Rd where they are the sole distributor for K&N filter at a good price...maybe you can try there [thumbsup]

Hi Vass,

Got a friend who do up his CAI using something like aluminium silver hose bought from some shops selling for kitchenware, bet it does stand high temperature. I can check out where he bought it and will post here when I got the address... [:)]

CAI - Cold Air Induction (or Intake). A setup to extract cold air into the filter, commonly use for Open Pod filter. The RAID one you show is Open Pod integrate with a CAI - the silver cylinder connecting a PVC host leading to somewhere under engine.

The pic below will show the actual setup of the RAID filter.

If you planning to install this, do check the cost of the filter or can it be clean and reuse. nod.gif

I'm still on stock filter but probably will change to K&N during next servicing. No budget for this RAID one. bigcry.gif

So anyone has installed this CAI?

Pls update and share with the results.

Skodee: Have you done it? What abt the armrest, arrived already?

Hi Volk74,

I have not installed yet though...KW was asking $400 if I can get total 3 Octys to install together. Else it will be $450. Was thinking of DIY myself and just replaced the filter with high performance type and changing the air intake hose to take cold air from underneath.

Have already installed the armrest and it is nice and useful...thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif thanks for your intro to the place...

sorry of this came too late for you. But MTM has a chip for the Skodas. Check it out with Servotronics, they are the local agent for MTM.

Any idea how much (price range) is the MTM ECU upgrade?

Search thru the wed, most are for the larger engine, any for our 1.6l 74kw?

hahah your question is a common question when airfilter is related. To answer your question directly would probably land myself in trouble with KNN. By far there is not filter MRF that had conducted and released the results to the open mkt about their findings. Its very much left to the consumers to decide.

Frankly all aftermarket airfilters performs almost the same. Unless you dyno every single one on your own car, otherwise performance ratings are just a 15% up across the board over the standard paper filter given by MFR.

a fren of mine had the time and money to dyno every single filter when he was studying in Ozy. He was surprised to find out that a major Jappy brand filter performed worst off than some unheard of brand. thus my frens, MFR claims are just something you can use as a guideline only.

Thanks for the pointers. Will be looking out for something other than K&N which I had tried on my previous Jap car. Not much diff after changing on my last car, fuel comsumption same and feel a little better response off the mark...nod.gif will be keen to try Green wink.gif

hahahha dude, pls don't expect a jump in torque and bhp with just a filter. apart from helping your car breath better, its no other than just a filter. If you really want power, get it chipped and your turbo changed.
