Aircon servicing

Hi guys,

Just wanted to find out what does aircon servicing entail? Understand that they do some kinda chemical cleaning or something? Do they dismantle the various a/c parts to do this?

Also, the compressor oil has to be topped up? Is adding that Buddy Club treatment thing similar?

"what does aircon servicing entail?"

Hi! there, Guinness,

What the a/c w/shop would do is remove the cooling coil & condenser to clean with a cleaning agent.

This does not include the compressor, as it'd be an o/haul.

Parts that are not cleaned are the a/c ducts, unless you request it.

Compressor oil must be refilled after re-install, once the other parts are removed, vacuum of the system too.

While you're at it, replace the a/c belt at the same time.

Rgds

3 things that you need to note to ensure a healthy aircon system.

1. change your aircon pollen filter at least once a year (there are pollen, HEPA and activated carbon types.. take your pick)

2. check your refrigerant level yearly especially after the 2nd year.

3. decontaminate your aircon system either in a workshop or a DIY product like this http://www.cleanair.com.sg. If workshop, try not to go for:

a. those who dismantle and manually clean and there's potential for physical damage

b. those which use foam as this would become liquid to flush out the dirt.. imagine what happens if you have cracks in your aircon piping.. leakage into our electronics-filled cars are on very fun :) .. also none of the service centres which uses foam-based product will work on conti cars.

My Sunny will be going for its 40K servicing on Sat. I spoke to the SE and was told many many fluids will be replaced and done except aircon servicing. My concern is here, I used to drive COE car n only did corrective maintenance. [laugh] Now with tis Sunny, I would like to practise preventive maintenance as its coming to 2yrs old also.

Reading thru all the aircon threads, I realise there is two school of advises.

1. To do aircon servicing every 2 yrs.

2. Do not touch the aircon at all. Spoilt then service.

The SE quoted me S$1XX plus for the aircon servicing. There is no problem to the aircon at all so contemplating with this servicing. Moreover tis will be my last agent servicing and will service my sunny else where after tis. Therefore need to make use of the labour now if not next time kena cut throat prices.

Please input ur advises b4 tis Sat. Thks.

Firstly is your Ac having any problems like air coming out is not cold, smell or less air coming out?

If u dont have any problems, maybe just leave it.

If u have those AC filter(Hepa etc) u might need to change it since it cud b quite clogged/dirty by now.

U might also want to spray some Lysol up the front footwell near the firewall with the blower on full blast to get it into the cooling coil to disinfect it from mold & mildew or fungus. This will prevent bad smells & also clogging up.

For the removal of the parts, I normally dont till there is serious problems cos if not properly replaced,u may have some leaks to the AC gas which will mean more repairs very soon.

Check the receiver drier glass "window" if there r many bubbles when the AC is running cos it means you need to top up the gas.

The quote of $100 plus by SE includes what? If only general cleaning, then it's quite expensive as u can do some spraying of Lysol for abt $5 a can only.

I dont disturb the AC unless it's got problems & even then I only go to Markcool as their work is the best i've seen so far. Their prices also very reasonable compared to others.

Markcool charged me $50 to strip the whole cooling coil & throughly wash including the blower Then fill up gas & compressor oil.
