Soya Supersonic December 27, 2003 Share December 27, 2003 Used them for 30,000km b4 on my previous ride. Pretty grippy and esp good in the wet (can whack thru hwy puddles a 100kmh and steering doesn't even twitch). some ppl say slightly noisy but dunno if it's hearsay coz i found it ok. but has a funny grinding sound when doing a slow turn coz of the deep "longkang" design. wear rate is reasonable if u dun track. overall, i would say it's grippier than my current ES100. but i think stamford is gonna bring out new range of tyres after the new year coz the ST115 has been ard for 3yrs oredi. Epsilon 2nd Gear December 27, 2003 Share December 27, 2003 Hi Soya, you are using es100 at the moment, so any comment on the tyre?
Emiffy Neutral Newbie December 27, 2003 Share December 27, 2003 Yup, nice and grippy on wet, although it's rather noisy (again, subject to your car, size of tires, insulation, etc etc). Was using 215/45/17. Lasted me around 30k km, went track 4 times on them. Recently changed to Potenza GIII, quieter and equally (if not better) performance on wet. Have yet to go track with the GIII, trying to enjoy the quietness for the time being... If I'm not mistaken, Falken should be coming out with a replacement soon... Onyx60 Neutral Newbie December 27, 2003 Author Share December 27, 2003 well its either this or the 512s....think the 115 got a higher rating rite? anyway going with the 215/40/17s...how quiet can a 40 or 45 profile be anyway? so ive kinda given up on comfort n quietness for performance.... hope this is the rite choice...coz its rather cheap...i hope?? they quoted me abt $180...does that sounds rite?? Onyx60 Neutral Newbie December 27, 2003 Author Share December 27, 2003 30K only?? thats not too great boy.... but i dun track...so perhaps can last a tad longer.... yeah wet traction is essential...i had conti sport 1 before...n it hydoplanes like crazy esp when its almost bald..i skidded on the PIE going abt 100km/h on the 3rd lane in the rain n almost hit the centre barrier...scare the crap out of me.... Emiffy Neutral Newbie December 27, 2003 Share December 27, 2003 Should be around there, for the /45 it was $170. Shop around... good luck
Vtim 3rd Gear December 27, 2003 Share December 27, 2003 not too bad for hi speed run in NS H/W both in the dry (190kmh+) & wet (140kmh) & I have only run it in the dry in PG track but it does get noiser when it's more than 1/2 used but it does have a stiff sidewall
Vtim 3rd Gear December 27, 2003 Share December 27, 2003 I like the stiffer sidewall design over the Kumho
Vtim 3rd Gear December 27, 2003 Share December 27, 2003 yes, the ST115 is a higher rating as compare to 512. if you want one step higher than ST115, then go for GRB FK-
Epsilon 2nd Gear December 27, 2003 Share December 27, 2003 what about ES100? are they good?
Vtim 3rd Gear December 27, 2003 Share December 27, 2003 sorry, haven't tried so can't comment
Soya Supersonic December 28, 2003 Share December 28, 2003 The ES100 is a pretty good all round tyre. it's not as grippy as the ST115 in the wet but slightly more comfy and tyre wear is very good. done 20k on them and thread depth still pretty decent considering the amt of torque it has to handle. for a performance-oriented tyre (won't call it ultra high performance tho it is rated as such by some tyre reviews), noise levels r quite acceptable. steering feel could be slightly better tho. S2P2 Neutral Newbie December 28, 2003 Share December 28, 2003 probably better then the 712s
Soya Supersonic December 28, 2003 Share December 28, 2003 yep, the ST115 (level A) is certainly a notch above the 512 (level B). tink they normally retail for ard $160-180. but i think 215/40/17 will look quite small under the S60's wheelarches as i know a T4er who has the same size on his and it looks small even on the S40. S2P2 Neutral Newbie December 28, 2003 Share December 28, 2003 ya man....but still value for $$$ is 712, cannot deny that.
Onyx60 Neutral Newbie December 28, 2003 Author Share December 28, 2003 i think the GRB FK-451 is a rather harsh tire to have rite? yeah its got higher speed ratings but i think the comfort n noise level can throw it all out the window for this one? i think a more livable tire is more practical for me coz i dun track anyway... ↡ Advertisement
