Coolent Leak

Hi all once again...sorri to disturb but notice recently that my coolent is leaking....have tried changing the cap, the bottle and even the thermostat housing and done pressure test but unable to locate the leak. saw a lot of gree patches (made from the coolent leak) on the surronding pipes and areas......

 

any idea where the falut might be and also will the coolent leak spilling on the surrounding areas damage any of my electronic and wires? after fixing the leak will i be able to wash off the green stuff to make the engine bay look clean clean thanks.

water pump is where huh? can it be seen w/o removing anything?

did u check ur hosing? mine's leaking at the hose end, kena spray all over the place including top of the bonnet... gonna change my hose soon..

i also newbie leh..

anyway, went to my mech, he did a pressure test and found that i was losing pressure slowly so we checked the radiator and stuff.. nothing.. so i just ran my fingers along the radiator hose at both ends after the clips.. true enuff, at the engine end, there was a leak there.. quite bad... green spot splattered everywhere... coolant leaking onto parts of the engine.. by rite, it shouldnt leak when the clip is removed but mine leaked even more so its most prob the hose.

How frequent did you top up the cooling system ? From your description it looks like it is a external and not a internal leak. So it is very easy to diagnose. You will still need to have a cooling system pressure tester. Get the engine hot, switch off engine and use the tester to pressurise the cooling system 20% above the recommended 15psi (exercise extreme cautious when removing the radiator cap as high presurised hot coolant will vapourise to super heat steam and can cause severe burn) Leave the tester in place and follow any tell-tale signs for leaks. Also try physically to "rock" all the coolant hose including the small by-pass hose hopefully small leaks will show up.Lift up the car on a hoist and go under the chassis to look for dripping coolant.

 

If you still not able to detect any external leaks and also experience high coolant temp during normal driving, then the problem is much more serious - it is a "internal bleeding" and need more advance testing.
