Revo513 Neutral Newbie February 16, 2004 Share February 16, 2004 Say in the morning before you go to work, do you on on the car for like 5 mins to warm up the engine (temp guage needle up to middle, between C and H)? Or just straight away drive the car off (needle still at C) ? I'm not sure whether warming up the car is better but I've always been doing this. However, a friend of mine recently told me that in Sg, warming up of cars in not required as it's a hot country. Only cold climate countries then warming up of cars are required. Karsoon Neutral Newbie February 16, 2004 Share February 16, 2004 Never heard of 'warming cars'. Not here in the tropical country like spore, dude! But I will not turn on my air con immediately when I drive off to work in the more. Usually wait till the temp needle is up.
Hitman Neutral Newbie February 16, 2004 Share February 16, 2004 Nope ... just move off and let the car warm up on the road. Warming up the car in the morning on idle for 5 minutes or till the neddle goes to up fully warmed up mark will increase your petrol consumption a whole lot. However, a friend of mine recently told me that in Sg, warming up of cars in not required as it's a hot country. Only cold climate countries then warming up of cars are required. Not necesarily so unless you drive an old carburetted car ... most fuel injection cars , you can just start up and go
Alan22 Neutral Newbie February 16, 2004 Share February 16, 2004 ermm from wat i heard.. warming up of car doesnt necessary on the engine and wait.. i was told to move the car slowly before the temp reaches the desire temp.. not to over rev the engine b4 it warm up... rather den to stop in the carpark and wait.. but if for turbo cars issit diff.... i guess mines onli for NA cars. anyone to verify

Not to forget , NO WIDE OPEN THROTTLE (WOT) till temp is up
Yansen Neutral Newbie February 16, 2004 Share February 16, 2004 what i practise is stationary warm up for abt 30s to 1 min. shouldnt eat up much petrol lah. i find it scary to move the car when the needle is way below 'C'. thereafter, move slowly n rev till about 2k - 2.5k then change gear. wonder if its ok? Karsoon Neutral Newbie February 16, 2004 Share February 16, 2004 Turbo cars just need to cool off. Dont need to warm up! Its HOT in turbo engine already!

Chromas 1st Gear February 16, 2004 Share February 16, 2004 Only in cold countries do you really need to warm up a car befor it can move off or else it would just "die" on you when you start to move off. However, I do know of someone with a VRG Gallant who had to literally warm up his car for 5 to 10min before it could move off That one, he say, is coz really got something wrong with the engine liao
Konspire Neutral Newbie February 17, 2004 Share February 17, 2004 well, i use to do it. in cars now, they hv this auto rev or warm up i dun know but when u start the engine, the rpm will be a bit higher than normal for ard 3-4 mins. than it will come down slowly to normal idle. so i used to wait until it comes down to normal idle then i go, by the time, the temp is risng a bit. but now, i just start my engine, get my daughter n wifey ready, i ready myself with my seat belt, my hp, seat comfortably position n it takes abt 2 mins. by the time, hopefully the engine oil is running. as mine is auto, i do not hv to press my accel, put to drive mode n release handbrake n let it run by itself. this way, i find out that it takes a little bit faster time to warm up. saves fuel also... Coyote Neutral Newbie February 17, 2004 Share February 17, 2004 I guess for old cars I heard ppl then to warm up teh engine first. But now, it is not necessary cos of warm climate in Sg.
Revo513 Neutral Newbie February 17, 2004 Author Share February 17, 2004 THanks for all the inputs.. so from what i gather, there shouldn't be any problem without warming up the car.. hehz
Ravinged 5th Gear February 17, 2004 Share February 17, 2004 My practice is ... start engine and let it idle to at most 2 minutes before I drive off for the next 5 minutes at max 2000RPM ... after that free to ram. My car's RPM takes a longer time to settle down to 700 or 800 range ... and the needle only goes up after a short drive. Ed ↡ Advertisement
