Hktan Neutral Newbie March 1, 2004 Share March 1, 2004 Hi, I owned a Ford Focus which is less than 6 month old. Recently washed my car and find up that the body paint is rough. Not those sandy feel but like COE car, just rough feel, without the feel of those new glossy paint. I waxed it with Kit Wax for Metallic Paint but in vain. I hate waxing. Very time consuming and make the car looks dirty as well. Any good recommendation to improve it? Wondering is Ford's original paint in gloss or rough type. If rough in original, then it is ok but don think they have rough paint leh. Heard of Glare. Don know they can help or not. Heard is around $400++. What they will do to our car or what services they will include for us with that price tag? Just cleaning and polishing of car? Exterior only? Very expensive if so. Anybody who tried or know what their service is all about please let me know. If you have better recommendation, let me know too. I am all ears. Many Thanks! ↡ Advertisement
Magfocus 5th Gear March 1, 2004 Share March 1, 2004 Hi there, correct me if i am wrong, but i believe you need to use a claybar..to lift the impurities from the paint.. It would be smoother after that. Would let Assassin elaborate further
Karsoon Neutral Newbie March 1, 2004 Share March 1, 2004 Hi HK, 6 months is a long period for your car to get 'rough' if you has not done any good polish to your car. All cars will get rough, especially if we often park our cars in the open or seldom do properly cleaning or waxing. Its common. To get that smooth feeling back again, like what magfocus said, you need to claybar the substainses on your paint. Leave the claybar job to the experts. Even I feel uneasy to do it myself. Search through the 'resource folders' and you will find out more about claybaring and other polishing tips. There are quite a few good brands of polishing/waxing products right now in the market. Glare, Autoglym, Zaino, just to name a few, can be obtained easily in Spore. If you find waxing is very taxing, like you said, then it would be good to signup with the grooming company as a package. Drive you car and let them do it. Or Even the Mr Lim (Ah Pek Polishing) can come to your doorstep to groom up your baby. Its all up to you. In another words, keeping your baby shine and smooth, there is always a price to pay. Choosing products and grooming packages are very subjective. Its all up to your own liking. If you were to ask me which is my personal perference, I would say go for Zaino (product) and Groomworks (company).
Assassin Clutched March 1, 2004 Share March 1, 2004 Hi there HKTan, Most probably contaminants has settled onto the paintwork of your car if you can feel that the body is rough to the touch. We would usually use a clay bar to remove those contaminants from your paintwork. Info on how to use it is listed in the HOW TO USE A CLAY BAR thread in the RESOURCES folder here http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_stick;redo=post_view_flat;so=ASC;sb=post_latest_reply;root_id=186441;pos t=186441://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...41;pos t=186441://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...41;pos t=186441://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...41;pos t=186441; A clay bar costs ~S$10, which you cut into a few pieces for multiple uses. It is normally done after a car wash, whereby you it use it together with a diluted solution of car shampoo and glide it over your car paintwork to remove the contaminants. Those members who have tried it keep going back to re-clay bar their rides even though its smooth already ! You can either send it to the grooming centres (list here http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_stick;redo=post_view_flat;so=ASC;sb=post_latest_reply;root_id=177660;pos t=177660;://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...0;pos t=177660;://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...0;pos t=177660;://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...0;pos t=177660;) for clay barring and polishing/wax etc. If you go for their packages, its around the S$400+ range and you will be required to go back every quarter. Here is an example of what one of the grooming centres does to your car for a grooming session.. http://www.groomworks.com/systemwork.htm If you prefer to DIY, you can try some of the detailing products listed in the INTRO TO DETAILING PRODUCTS thread here http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...t=193514#193514 The are more info in the RESOURCES folder on other detailing products and how to tips. Do check it out. What colour is your ride btw ? Hope this helps. Cheers

So far, my colleague has been using Glare. It's been 11 months and his ride is still gleaming new. As for me, i am using Autogylm regular polishing and i have already been through 4 cycles and now it's rough and dewaxed again. Got all those sandblast and stuff. Seems like Glare is working out well in protection in the Tuas Region.
Hktan Neutral Newbie March 1, 2004 Author Share March 1, 2004 Thanks for your info. Very detailed. Need to clarify with you this: 1) $400++ is how many time of services in one year? 2) $400++ includes interior and exterior process? Does it includes Zaino process? 3) $400++ is Glare process or Zaino process? Or we have to choose ourselves between the two? 4) Which is better or which is more recommended? I work in Jurong, Tuas area. Almost everyday subjected to sandy environment and under hot sun. 5) Which company is more recommended for their workmanship? My ride is in grey colour. That is to say that if I sign up for the glooming package, I only need to wash the car? Many Thanks!

That is to say that if I sign up for the glooming package, I only need to wash the car? Many Thanks! 1. Normally, its every quarter. 2. Zaino, Meguairs, Glare, Autoglymn....all these are separate products on their own. The grooming centres will recommend one product to you. Unless you go to those that only sell one product. eg. Amazing Glaze AG5. From the Groomworks web site...you can see that it is inclusive of the interior as well for the package. Best to call and confirm with the grooming centres. They might have some promo that I may not know about. 3. These are 2 different products, you have to choose one or the other. Not sure if the prices have changed....someone please correct me if I am wrong. Zaino is ~S$450, Glare is ~S$488...for medium sized cars. Glare prices are here http://www.glare.com.sg/index2.html and Groomworks prices are here http://www.groomworks.com/ourrates.htm 4. Since your car is a dark coloured car, you can try either Zaino, Glare, Amazing Glaze AG5 [there is an AG5 discussion here http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...st_reply;so=ASC]. Out of these 3, I think AG5 requires the least amount of 'work' on your part... ie. you just wash with normal car shampoo. For Glare, you would be recommended to purchase the 'UltraWash' car shampoo as well as the "Glare Rapid Action Spray" [http://www.glare.com.sg/index2.html] which is a 60% concentration of the original Glare formula [which they do not sell]. For Zaino, you can just wash with normal car shamppo regularly, or there is a whole list of products to purchase if you want to and DIY [products listed here http://www.cazcomp.com/products.asp] your ride with. So it is up to you how much 'involvement' you intend to put into your ride. 5. There is no 'best' company out there for detailing. It depends on what products you are looking for. For Zaino, you can try either Groomworks [look for Yong, you have to send your ride in and leave there for about 4-6hrs] or Cazcomp [http://www.cazcomp.com, look for Chandra, he comes to your place to detail your ride]. You can also purchase Zaino products from Cazcomp. For Glare, you can go to the Glare shop itself or to Groomworks. For Amazing Glaze AG5, you can send your ride to the AG5 shop [http://www.amazingglaze.com.sg/]. Generally speaking, once you have done up your ride with any of these packages....you just need to wash with normal car shampoo should be fine. But some of us prefer to go a bit further and DIY some more. Hope this helps. Cheers Edited March 1, 2004 by Assassin
