Tube connecting cam cover to airbox

i found out yesterday that there seems to be a missing connection (prolly some kind of tube) betwwen the cam cover and the airbox of the carburatted engine in my 73 celica...... went to part shops and was told they don't keep stock for 73 model no more [:/]

any bro here know what sort of substitue pipe/tube i should use? the position of the outgoing(male) hole from the cam cover and incoming(female) hole into the airbox is very oddly placed such that when i tried using a normal 15mm dia reinforced garden hose the curvature is too sharp to connect the two holes??? [:/][:/]

i need help [crazy]

btw, i actually have been driving the car since i bought the car 3 years ago and the engine runs ok..... should i really bother with this missing connection now?

"if it ain't broke, dunt fix it"????

I am not too sure about which tube u are talking about .... post a pix. Maybe I can help you out.

What I know is that there is a tube that runs from the left hand side of the car (cool air intake) to the air filter cover which you are missing (last I saw) so your car filter is sucking lots of hot air.

In my 93 Honda Accord, the only hose that comes out of the intake(air box?) is the vacuum tube, and leads to somewhere near the engine (I forgot)...

I heard it is very bad for engine if that is not working..

That sounds like the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) breather hose. It vents crankcase gases (oil fumes/hot air) into the air intake so that it can be burnt in the engine. Basically its an emissions thing, to prevent these fumes from being exhausted to the atmosphere.

However, some ppl advocate disconnecting the thing because you're also feeding your engine hot air (bad thing). So the previous owner could've disconnected it hoping for some performance improvement? That also means the gases/oil fumes are being vented freely into your engine compartment? No filter there to replace the hose? Is the airbox side capped off?

Btw you got a '73 Celica? Cool [thumbsup]

Was just talking to my friend recently about this car and saying that we hardly see any more on the roads. Gotta see it one day leh [:)]

what you said solved the mystery of the missing tube in my engine bay [:)] .... the airbox hole which was supposed to take in the missing tube is not capped.... i think i better cap it.... or should i put in a small filter as the cap?

yeah, my classic celica kakis love our old gals even though there are only about 6-7 of us in sgp [:/] .... one has juz recently restored his (bare-metal respray) and i dare say his celica is now the best in town, even batam and jb [thumbsup][thumbsup] , will try to ask him to MCF meetup soon.... the condition of mine is so so, now i m trying to improve the performance abit.... one step at a time: already got extractor and straight thru exhaust.... thinking of upgrading to twin webers....

cheers

I think you might was well cap off the hole on the intake side, or else it'll be sucking in hot air from your engine compartment.

For the valve cover side, some ppl recommend putting a filter on but I'm not sure if it will prevent blow-by gases and vapor from being ventilated properly. I've seen a DC2 and it has an oil catch can to go the job. That should be the "proper" way but I've been told it costs more than a hundred bucks. Been thinking of doing this mod to my car too but wasn't sure how to cap of the two ends... so it's still stock for now
