I saw at Hua Yang a 210ps 4speed auto with steering shift and they quote 134+K guaranteed coe.

 

how much is 210ps converted to bhp???

 

Sorry, its my first time getting from PI and i'm not confident of their ability to service/repair the car after hearing horror stories about their post sale service (or even their selling tactics!). Even though the SE claimed that they have very expereinced mechanics who are trained in repairing RX8, i have my reservations.... with all due respect, rotary is a very rare kind of engine in singapore (other than RX7) and i dun belief these run of the mill mechanic can deal with it competently.....

so, i need some info from guys who actually got their cars from PI and maybe share their stories.....

 

I have considered getting from Mazda Singapore but they only bringing in the 6 spd manual Euro version....

Dunnoe why they choose to do this....

 

 

The main problem with current cars if you get from PI is whether their workshops are trained to service the cars. For example, for RX-8, they have a new version M-Flash of the software/config for the PCM which improves fuel consumption and overcome the "flooding" problem. With the amount of electronics in our cars, specialised equipment are often needed to service them. The last I heard, the local PIs are still not handling it yet.

 

It is cases like this that getting from the distributor will have more confidence. This goes for all cars, not just the RX-8.

I'm currently doing my research into RX-8 with intention to get it soon.

need some feedback and reviews on the car....

1) what models available here in Singapore at this stage?

2) has the recall issue been resolved?

3) which PI most reliable?

4) anyone can give a review on the car from personal experience?

5) I'm interested only in auto with steering shift (wife factor... available?

6) what is the price range i should be looking at to avoid being chopped?

7) most importantly, is it buggy? meaning: do i need to bring it for repair or replacement of parts often?

[ol] [*]Most of the PI bring in the 5 speed manual, there is a 4 speed auto but not steering mounted, the version you are looking for is the Type E with the steering mounted shift but still a 4 speed, you can indent from the PI if you are interested. Mazda Motor is bringing in the Type S which is the 6 speed manual. [*]As far as i know the main recall is that the car is not living up to its claimed power output [*]I only have experience with Leco, cant comment on the others. [*]No one i know has it and PI dun give test drives. But Jeremy Clarkson likes it a lot and the circuit lap time is the same as the M3 But many comment that the model to get is the 5 speed manual cause the 6 speed manual actually has lower torque (216 N.m vs 222 N.m) than the 5 speed though with higher horses (250 ps vc 210 ps) so better for city driving. [*]See (1) [*]Approx. 140K [*]Car mag long term test car, comment is that the engine is hard to start during cold (NEVER step on the gas while cranking, will flood the engine), apart from that is a faulty car seat heater (dun think JDM models have), beside that the tester is very happy with the car except the FC is very high [/ol] Good Luck and btw good choice

 

To add to the above:

 

1) U can indent all models from PIs, but only Type S from Mazda.

 

2) The recall was for a faulty heat shield... parts were availiable and the problem had been resolved. There should not be this problem for newer cars (Mazda Singapore gets direct from factory... should not be a problem. PIs normally get from Japan distributors/retailers and the car model may not be the latest - ie. may need servicing).

 

3) Dun deal with enuff to advise.

 

4) I test drive both the 4-speed auto and the 6-speed manual. For Singapore driving, both are ok but the 6-speed manual is definitely more fun with better pick-up etc. Steering is good and cornering superb. The thrill of reving up to 7,000 to 8,000 RPM before gear shift is top-notch and that explains why so many people have poor fuel consumption in Singapore (it kinda makes u forget about fuel economy!!!)..... You will just love the sound of it.

 

Interior and exterior both among the best in Japanese cars (kinda looks like a continental sports car). The handling is smooth and easy, braking excellent as there are a lot of electronics, very suitable for female drivers. Overall, it is definitely a very fun car to drive and attracts attention easily.

 

5) May want ur wife to try both the manual and auto and then decide.... prob end up with auto... =)

 

6) Auto - $115 to 125K, 6-Speed Auto - 130 to 140K

 

7) The car is not buggy and the flooding problem had been resolved with the M-Flash SW upgrade. So far, there are a lot of excellent reviews from all over the world.

 

 

BTW, there are big differences between the Type S and other model.... Leather seats, sports suspensions, 18 inch rims, electronic seats etc.

 

Personally, the Type S is definitely a better buy!!!
