Linus Clutched June 30, 2004 Share June 30, 2004 i also not sure... juz tt the imitation one is smaller in terms of length.... once u put into the slot... still got abt 3 fingers spacing of gap.... can see the filter moving abt in the slot, whereas the original mazda one fit nicely without any movements... Linus Clutched June 30, 2004 Share June 30, 2004 (edited) hehehe.. i din think so pal... correct, more air gets in but since the filter is smaller... less air is filtered... thereby the combustion rate will not be at its optimum.. not possible to get good mileage/FC. yah, hope so. trying to find out wat the price of the K&N filter for my protege. do u think need to get the washing/cleaning kit as well ? Ecaf Neutral Newbie June 30, 2004 Share June 30, 2004 can't remember exactly when i bought the k&n filter but i think it was either in february or march..hmmm.. k&n no need to change one, only need to clean and re-oil after abt 50,000km during servicing also they dont open the airbox, coz got paste sticker on it u want the contact number for the person i bought k&N from? got the contact from Mazda forum hehehe can try calling him, tho i forgot his name already.. Wish186 Neutral Newbie June 30, 2004 Share June 30, 2004 Brother, if you ride rpm response not very good, better check or might need to clean the throttle valve. I know someone driving a WISH (quite MOD up one) having problem with his KNN filter and he swear against it now. He claimed that he used it for less than 30K and the filter dried up and dirt & dust just go through and cause throttle valve to "choke" and need to clean it. Now, he went back to stock filter but drifting very soon to TRD filter and oil. Anyway, I think the frequency of cleaning depends on lot of factors. Eg. the environment your ride is operating, driving habit (always redline?), etc. Imagine this Wisher ATF oil turn "black" when he changed it at 18K only BTW, I bought the KNN filter for my Wish (same as G9) at $80 two weeks ago and cleaning kit is std price at $15. If any bro or sis want, can ask Mr Lau (KNN) to come down to our MCF meetup for delivery. He stays in AMK and can be contacted at hp97281230. They are quite similar to k&n except that they are 2 layers interwoven cotton rather than 4 layers cotton gauze. 100K miles warranty and needs cleaning and re-oiling every 7-10K kms. Cost abt same as k&n. Supplies to WRC Citroen, Peugeot, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Junior WRC Clio & Ignis.
