Just got my Matrix A last Fri evening. Today, I went into JB for some shopping and food. Took the opportunity to top up some fuel even though my meter showed 158km travelled so far. Imagined how much fuel I topped up to the brim? 15 litre. Which means so far I get 10.5km per litre which I consider very good taking into account many Matrix drivers complaining about getting less than 10km per litre especially when the car is new. I used SPC 92Oct for my first tankful. My driving is 60% highway and 40% city with air-con on all the time. I guess being very light footed helps and also not allowing the RPM to hit beyond 3000RPM. I am hoping to achieve about 12km per litre after running-in or when I reached 10,000km travelled. Yippeeee.

my colleage who drove his matrix to KL...couldnt get more than 11km/l...

Thats a reason why i dun get Hyundai cars as the FC varies too much from one owner to the another. for Jap cars, I dun hear ppl has that much FC difference thus I trust the FC for these Jap cars are true.

 

example: my friend Corolla G9 even with his heavy foot, the worst FC is claims is only 10+km/l. You get what i mean?

Dear all, I am driving a Matrix 2004 (got it in April) and regarding the FC of the car, I have attached the latest mileage of my last full tank. Amazingly, it reads 544.4km as my normal FC is around 400km - 450km at best.

 

What I have did is to be as light footed as possible, though I have revved up to 6000 rpm on 8 occasions (yes, i counted).

 

Guess being light-footed really helps a lot in FC!!

 

wow... no matter how light footed i am... my matrix can onli fetch 9km/l... just to check with you...

 

1) what petrol do you use???

2) at move off from stationary, wat is the rpm you try to keep below???

3) at normal driving, wat is the rpm you try to keep?

 

thanx... mi also trying beri hard to keep my FC down... but nothing seems to help....

(1): Shell 98

(2): below 2,500 rpm

(3): below 80km/h. Ideal is gear 4, 60km/h, 1,600 rpm

 

Disclaimer: the rpm are only estimations. I don't have SAFC to help me moniter..

Yes, a good light right foot will be the excellent mod for FC. FYI, I got these done in my car:

 

(1): Open Pod K&N with CAI

(2): 5-point grounding

(3): Z-Stab (Which i don't find it very useful since I don't have I.C.E)

 

I am still running on my stock rims. As far as possible, try to lighten up the car.

Yes... no need expensive mod... you only need to be light footed...

 

i can get around 410km on 3/4 tank... believe can hit more than 500+km on a full tank... just be light footed, no need to zoom in and zoom out, just ride steady and enjoy hte ride, anyway TP is watching you closely as well, cannot go fast also

Sigh! I should have told you about my father Toyota Corolla FC. When I drove the car, I was getting 9km/l (when I just got my license). Cheonging all the way. My dad was furious.

When my father drive, he got 12km/l. How's that for an FC range of a Toyota Corolla.

 

My brother in-law after various modding of his Mitsubishi Lancer (to make it to F1 car) got 5-6km/l. He enjoy the ride but doesn't enjoy the petrol bill.

thanks for your feedback. will try to be lightfoot,,,although tends to hit 3 rpm quite easily......

 

on the mod, i will drive the car as it is for a while and see how it goes.....

just my small experience(pls read thread hyundai accent 2003 post 23)

 

my accent never went more than 4k/rpm,at most 3k/rpm.

WOW!!! That is excellent mileage for a Matrix 1.6 auto at 11.82km/l

 

I have friends who managed only 9km/l at best

It is not a fair comparison to compare the Matrix's conventional engine with the Corolla's VVTi engine.

If u don't drive beyond 4000 rpm ... it doesn't make any difference whether it is VVTi or not....... engines with VVTi technology generally are high revving........coz a change in valve timing only occurs somewhere between 4k and 5k rpm, of course u can tune it lower or higher with an aftermarket controller.

 

For those who could produce high mileage, it would be nice that you could give a break-down on the percentage of highway and city driving the mileage was attained. Mileage gained from 100% highway driving and 100% city driving can make a vast difference.
