Is it normal?

Don't know of any reliable shop, but there is one at the junction of Braddel road (from toa payoh to Thomson) going toward bishan junction 8. The caltex station. They handle honda car previously, don't know whether they still do. But have to warn you that they know honda car, that does not mean they are top quality mechanic.

I once change my timing belt there (3 door civic) after which my tappet was very loud and they told me the tappet worn. Ask them did they adjust the gap correctly they say yes, went back and redo it myself and the noisy tappet is gone, because they think they adjust correctly but when I double check it was out and so rectify it myself.

Your model seem to have a small problem on morning cold start idling. Using choke is one way around the problem. Agree the idling may be a bit low when engine is cold. What you need is a good tuning.

Sold my car and the figure are written on my manual, lost my manual also.

Slight tak tak sound when hot is normal, but not loud.

If I'm not wrong should be 6 and 8. Inlet and outlet tappet adjustment. The bigger the gap the easier the starting and low speed driveability the smaller the gap the better the high speed performance. for info.

thks for the reply.

maybe my diff in starting is due to the tappets adjustment and not the engine treatment. [blush]

Yes, tappet adjustment affect starting,

good tuning is ignition timing set correctly, there is a mark on the pulley when you shine the strobe gun,

carb adjustment, mixture screw fully turn in and back off about 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turn out. adjusts idle speed about 900 rpm when warm

and tappet(valve clearance) set correctly.

Not forgetting a clean air filter.

Sorry the guess figure for tappet is incorrect. found the actual figure

inlet is 20mm (approx 8 thou)

exhaust 25 mm (approx 10thou)

It require some skill to get the correct gap, I normally do it twice. That is after adjusting and tightening the locknut, re check again until I'm satisfied.

cheers [:)]
